I am getting this message now from trying to get to my pm inbox:

Why is this message coming up? It has never happened before for all the time that I have been on here.

I have gotten this error a few times over the last 24 - 48 hours.

Could be another DDoS attempt. It's not something that you should worry about considering its frequency of occurrence.
