I've seen various people post donation BTC addresses -- in blogs, forum signatures, etc. -- and I've posted one also on the "tips" page on my personal site (where I have some information and other content that people seem to like). But do those ever get used? I've never received a tip/donation, and I'll admit I've never sent one either -- although I've also only ever had tiny BTC balances, and often transaction fees have been huge in comparison to the small amounts I've sent for other things, like online advertising, so a donation would have a similarly high overhead. Is the BTC donation idea really just wishful thinking?

Just some late-night rambling and curiosity...  Smiley

It does seem like it. I've seen mention of people donating BTC to others a couple times on these very forums for one thing or another. I think two of these cases were "rewards" for testing / investigating different things. One was to some fella who investigated which FGPA was in a BFL ( butterfly logic ) Jalapeno i think it was.

EDITED for typos.

Yeah, I saw that thread, but that's for donating to organizations (if I understood correctly from a quick skim). I was thinking more of the individual, person-to-person thing. For example, on my site I have a Web-based ROT13/ROT47 encoder and it gets a fair amount of traffic via search engines. Naturally I'm not charging for it, but somebody who appreciated the use of it could "tip" me for it. But that's probably just wishful thinking.

I get some from time to time. Usually the more assholish I am, the more I get.

Always amusing that people are rewarded for that, as opposed to being rewarded for being helpfull/nice

Yup, I send ltc donations. But the transaction fees for litecoin, since price arose, are killer to the wallet.
