I'm trying to use the bitcoin-qt wallet, but the blockchain never seems to load. At first it would jump from 99% to 90%, than 99.9% to 97%. This keeps happening and at this point the status/progress bar is no longer showing up. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

The blockchain is constantly updated, depending on the speed of your internet and the load on the system it can take a long time to download. Have you tried restarting the program? If that fails try to reboot your computer or check your internet connection. It really shouldn't take days.

I've seen the client seem to get hung up and really process blocks very slowly. I kill it and restart it and it chugs through at a decent pace again until the next time it slows down. Lather, rinse, repeat.

recent blocks are bigger than earlier, as long as you hear that son bitch chomping on your hd it should be going.  As long as you gots connections and the blocks are updating.  do a mouse over the spinning circular arrows, see what block ur on.  Should add a few every minute.

Thanks for the responses. I fooled around in the debug and slowly, but surely I'm approaching the current block. The real slow down has been this past month. I also noticed that it occasionally slows and that you have to reboot it.
