I had to reinstall Bitcoin-Qt now I'm having to do the whole sync thing that could take days...

The official bitcoin repo on sourceforge hasn't updated since last year.

Any other trusted source with more uptodate snapshot?

Be sure to email Gavin and ask him:

1) why we don't have blockchain pruning?

2) why no magnet link to a recently updated, dev verified blockchain (torrents are merkel rooted, just post say once a month)?

Best I can do.

@doobadoo

This process really needs to be more straight forward, I'm sure the Dev team is aware of it.

Benchmarked on beefy hardware and with a big pipe initial sync ranges from one hour to five hours.

Those who don't have beefy hardware and want faster startup will mostly be better served with an SPV client.

There really is no need to download the blockchain seperately, just let it sync off the peer-to-peer network. I renamed my blockchain directories and redownloaded on Apr 3, and it looks like it took from 12:02-14:38. I even forgot I had done that until today.
