I don't think so, as far as I can see it they can be on the similar scale which means equal in popularity. Because I don't know why people are still getting to the point of matching Bitcoin and Paypal. It always comes down to the matter of preferences of the user. If the user thinks this one is more convenient than the latter then he will be using it.

Bitcoin is not competing with PayPal or Visa its competing with the US dollar. So in a sense the relationship between Bitcoin and Paypal is like the Trojan horse and Troy. If we get bitcoin inside PayPal, then that will be a big blow to the US dollar. For the number of users, maybe yes. But for the entire thing, it won't be. Because Bitcoin and PayPal is a different thing, you can't just compare it because both of them are used on the internet. PayPal is an online payment system that using government's currency, but Bitcoin is the currency itself. So maybe many people will use Bitcoin, but PayPal won't die because people still need it somehow.

Bitcoin can overcome paypal only if all online sites starts accepting bitcoin as a mode of  payment or else people will never come to know that they can pay even with bitcoins as paypal is more popular then bitcoin at a moment.

I hope Bitcoin overcomes Paypal. Paypal has screwed over just about everyone I've known.

There is nothing to make a comparison between bitcoin and PayPal. Both differ in it legalities and the method of using. Co-founder of PayPal indicated that PayPal is payment support that made an change in the payment system. Bitcoin as a payment gateway has also grown to get used as a currency. This clearly shows the potential of bitcoin.
