Segregated witness, HD wallets, pruning, speed and memory improvements, and 13 BIP's added on top of all of that.  Christ this is one behemoth of an update, bravo.

Let's see how SegWit will perform on Litecoin, if the hype surrounding it is really justified. It is a good move by Litecoin developer in my opinion since with SegWit Smart contract application can be run on the network

this is a great news for both litecoin and bitcoin.
litecoin because it is a big step in its development and will most probably lead to a big price rise soon.
and for bitcoin because litecoin and bitcoin are alike and we can see SegWit and how it works in a real world coin instead of bitcoin testnet.

one question: is it going to run or will it be like bitcoin and need miners to signal it and adopt it first? and did they adopt it? where can we see the stats for litecoin?
nevermind i found the answer here http://litecoinblockhalf.com/segwit.php Cheesy

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.

Will be interesting to watch between now and January 28th how many adopt. I'm under the impression that seventy-five percent must be maintained for approximately two weeks (8064 blocks) and then seqwit is adopted at the next difficulty change (maximum about 3 1/2 days)

good to see there are updates from litecoin dev and they now have the new forum which is usually where we get to see some developments. I guess we're all going to be seeing some price hikes in the coming days of LTC.

Thanks for the information. Interesting to see what will happen. If the LTC crowd don't update then I guess there is not more room for groaning about lack of development.

It seems likely based on information available that the update will go through (the largest pool is supporting). I don't think it's the LTC crowd that has been doing most of the groaning about lack of development. Undoubtedly the groaners will find something else to complain about.

it's good to see this happening, but think about it, all they did was to copy and paste bitcoin's core hard work. This only further proves bitcoin is king and got the best developers and the rest are just copying what they do.

With that being said, I hope to see segwit activated in litecoin as soon as possible.

i sincerely hope this is true and we can see SegWit on litecoin. it is good for the miners too, because they can see it in action in litecoin if they are not willing to switch on bitcoin first. that can be their testing ground to see how things go.

and maybe finally bitcoin miners make their mind too, i say either do it or deny it and let us move on with our lives, i am starting to get tired of all the drama with blocksize Cheesy

but based on this you also need to activate segwit right? what is the % of those node that activated it? because not all those that have runnign it have activated it or maybe i'm wrong

The Beauty of "Open Source" LOL

Many people don't view LTC as a replacement though.. more as a supplement.
Since it's harder to get major changes done on Bitcoin..
then it's handy to have a go to coin that coin do them faster to get a preview of how it will work on BTC.

I am very pleased that LTC had at last made a big move forward, i don't think it is a replacement to the bitcoin, but i like it as it is the mother of altcoins.
http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/litecoin/ Interesting to see how the dumping is working, as some pointed here, there are whales cashing out, maybe it is good for LTC, but i am sure that this update will bring a lot of great features to the project.

But a supplement of what? Bitcoin does not need a supplement. It is working ok on its own.

On litecoin's segwit implementation, is there really a need for this? Litecoin already is capable of 4 times the speed and capacity of bitcoin per block. What would segwit achieve? Are the blocks already getting full like bitcoin's blocks? I speculate this move is nothing but an attempt to gain some relevancy.

Are you criticizing a speed improvement ?
Have we not heard complaints about it not being active enough code wise ?

A lot of the mining code out there was born from the early days of Litecoin mining too.
LTC helped pioneer this stuff big time.
They have paved the way for altcoins popping up years later.

Last i heard guys were talking about adding ANON features to it and i flamed it hard..
I still think it would be a really bad idea.
It's just not needed by the majority of us all.
I don't know about tracking stolen coins too much but if ANON helps them get away with it then i say think about that !
How often did you hear about a story where some guys BTC was stolen but they were able to track the coins ?
Me ?
I have nothing to hide either..

I also think ANON is picking a fight with major govt's ..a fight you won't win !

LTC can and should pursue what ever is good for the coin.
Improvements ?
People add them and they complain LOL
They don't add them and they complain  Cheesy

By the way.. i have not nor would i bitch if any other coin added Segwit too.

Yeah Herbert2020 I agree.
Looking at The WIZ i see some whale etc dumping.. bet he wishes he waited LOL

i can say with 100% confidence that any whale who dumped around that time has zero regrets.

i've been a longtime advocate of litecoin but now i've happily bailed.

had been told by various litecoin devs and Coblee, that there are things being worked on (that i wasn't happy with), that are just being tested and not necessarily added.
now i've been around enough company management/government to know things being tested are always exceedingly likely to be added. opponents are always fobbed off with "oh we're just testing that".....right up until its too late to change course.

so now i see the first stage of this, well its time for me to give up any fight (knowing full well certain devs are pigheaded enough to push their ideas through with little regard for supporters, so opposition is pretty pointless).

Also many of us supported Litecoin because it was an alternative to Bitcoin (plenty of us unhappy ages back with the path dev of bitcoin where taking and what bitcoin was becoming), now in rhetoric and in develpment we are seeing Litecoin become essentially a testnet for Bitcoin.

i didn't invest in litecoin to be a testnet for bitcoin, so now i must look elsewhere for a genuine alternative to bitcoin.

as i've said many times in the past; the only thing good to ever come out of Cryptocurrency (including Bitcoin), to this point in history, is, the idea.

Interesting kelsey !
You know i hold you opinion in high regard.. you are intelligent and very astute with this stuff.

I too way back heard some talk of "testing" and no i was not amused either.

It's time i re-examine my stance in Litecoin i think.
I had supported it for ages because they earned it way back.
It's what got me here !

But if they are going on a course i do not approve of then i guess i have to pull my support.
In a way i have been TRYING to continue to support them regardless of bad signs.
Being a bit of a blind cheerleader i suppose.. because of past accomplishments.

If i can not re-assess my stance on a project then i am an idiot.
I don't want to become what i complain about all the time.. a blind stubborn baggy cheerleader shill.

Oh and when i said i bought some the other day i mean $22 worth at Bittrex  Cheesy
So it's not like i mortgaged my house to buy Altcoins.
