What i have done is:

1 PCIE 6 PIN to -> 3 x molex (GND, +12V) , rest, mean 3.3V and secound GND is powered from molex/SATA.

Work great for 3-4 mounths now.

So I will no use those cable with 4 SATA
But I found the two others cables who had burn and they have 4 molex ..

I was using this riser :

which I will replaced with Phil's risers
And RX 480 was not overclocked

Do not ever use SATA hdd extender for riser.   Use any other PCI-e connector. Molex, standard PCI-e to SATA (in your case SATA to PCI-e) will be fine.
DO NOT EVER POWER molex connectors on the H81 btc mobo. It will create a feedback loop and either fry your motherboard or your sata cables) .. In you case you have already fried sata cables.

LEPA PSU us good as long as it does not die. As someone suggested above; use PCI-e 6 pin splitter and connect one end to PSU and other (split end) to USB riser and graphics card. once again.. DO NOT power molex connectors on H81btc mobo it will fry your mobo.

Let me know when it works (I am sure that it is going to work).. I will send you my ZEC address once you let me know that its working. Cheers my miner bud
I will try without molex on the h81 ! Hope it will not fry my motherboard
Where can I find those "PCI-e 6 pin splitter" ?
Thanks a lot !

Hi,
I've been having issues with my 2 rigs (12xRX480, 2x Lepa G1600w)(have driver 16.11.3)
Some of my modular cable from PSU are burning when they are connected to my powered risers (see photo)

This happens to me 3 times and it's always the same connector who burn
Should I use pci to molex converter to power my risers?
Could anyone help me?

Can pay 0.1 zec if anyone give me a great solution

here is my zec address

That's not the solution phil Wink

It's due 18awg terminals, and heavy power load (cable chains). He just needs to arrange better the power distribution.

Here many miners were stupid to buy "Lepa" (most bought 1000w model) some 40%+ dies in first month, cables and connectors are also garbage

Please.. I've got 8 of them (1600 and 1700). Perfectly fine.

Always go for lower awg cables. Lower awg= bigger cable = more ability to carry current
I will use this if I was you
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-PCI-EXPRESS-6-PIN-Y-SPLITTER-POWER-CABLE-24-MADE-IN-USA-/261467556706
or this

There was nothing wrong with your previous USB risers. Actually it will be less messy cable management wise. 1 PCI cable from PSU enters the splitter. becomes 2 PCI .. one goes to the RX480 and other goes to the USB riser. Your PSU already has 6 PCI connectors so you should have enough connections..

Yep. Should work fine.  Now none asked if he under volts.  He said he does not over clock. But maybe he does not use msiafterburner to set volts lower.   Say -50 or -75 or if. Lucky - 90

Afterburner also let fans be set around 80%.  And top temp at 80f

only use pcie cables on the risers. each card gets a feed from the pcie cable  on the riser. do not deal with the shit cables

This, right here. SATA and Molex cables and connectors were never intended to supply the amount of power needed at the slot for some of these RX cards. This is not a power supply issue, it is a power distribution issue.

I go sleep now. Tomorow morning i can go to mining room and make photo for you. I was custom made this cables. If you use old (not USB) risers i have one type 6pin -> 3x molex (only 12V), with new USB risers i use same but additional add 3.3V and GND from SATA connector. At risers most use line is +12V (yellow cable that you have burned).

And you must always know. Less Voltage = more Amps. More Voltage = less Amps.  Amps burning your cables not Voltage. But this is only theroy.

Why aren't you allowed to plug in the Molex on the H81 motherboard? How does it create a feedback loop? Its not shorted together with the other +12V coming from the PCIe slot.

Its shorted together instead with the motherboards ATX +12V plug. Nothing wrong with doing this.

As for the PIN melting, I am guessing you plugged it in and out too many times and the female end got loose. I had this happen even with the PCIe modular connectors. +50Watts or so should of been fine with that since the connector is no different from the PCIe connector. Plugging in the same amount of wattage wouldn't of made a difference anyways since the male/female connections are identical in that PSU.

There are major discussions happened before due to H81 BTC pro https://forum.z.cash/t/asrock-h81-pro-btc-r2-0-using-molex-power-and-powered-risers/8610/22

Conclusion is never use molex connector on mobo. Just power riser from the molex on the riser itself.

I agree 100% with  philipma1957  when it comes to RX470/RX480 GPUs and risers .

It is recommended to use PCI-E powered riser .

You can order some 8 PIN PCI-E Splitter  cable , from 8 pin PCI-Male to Dual 8 Pin female .

IF you have 1KW PSU with Dual CPU cable you can get a cable to convert 8 pin CPU to Dual 8 Pin PCI-E.

I run my 7 RX470 Rig on Evga 1300 G2 as follow .

Each PCI-E cable , connected to 8 pin to Dual 8 pin cable(6+2) , each of the cables will handle GPU+ Riser
Total 6 cables = Total 6 GPUs + 6 Risers.
7th GPU to be handled by 8 Pin CPU cable to Dual 8 pin PCI-E
One CPU cable = 1 GPU + Riser.

Riser Link
1X to 16X graphics card Riser Card USB 3.0 Extender Cable with 6 pin power connector

I see you are using one cable for both the riser and the GPU.

I am looking at switching those bad SATA connectors that come with the powered risers and supply both the risers and the GPUs with the PCI-e. I have a Corsair HX850W PSU with room for 4 PCI-e that comes with those cables: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71bjig54yHL._SL1500_.jpg

Is it okay in your opinion to use each dual PCI-e (6+2 Pins) to power 1 riser + 1 RX570 ?

Thanks in advance

Burning cables usually happen when your PSU is overload.
Let`s say your rig draw about 950w and u using a 1000w PSU.
Sometimes the electric can over draw.
Give some space for your PSU at least 200w and above.

Example : RIG draw at 950w , use at least 1200w PSU and at least GOLD Certified.
This would do the trick.
