I just opened a ripple wallet, Are u saying that I can't buy and deposit any ripples into my wallet until someone loans me 300 first?

yes basically and 500 is even better.  actually 1000 is better.  you can place one trade order with 300 though and also transfer money and bitcoins in from bitstamp to buy more.  1000 ripples only cost about $2.50

Basically you need 400 ripples to start doing something useful.
