[ANN] CoinMap 2.0! (Map showing places where Bitcoin is accepted)

Hey, just thought I would add in a feature request: the ability to show only the places that were added in the last X days? (maybe just some defaults like last week, last month, last year, etc.)

I am constantly checking coinmap.org to see "what's new" and although I can see that it's growing, it's hard to tell which of the merchants are the new ones to be added to the map!

I have to second that motion. It would be useful too to have a lots of people check out the newly added places so that any spam could be discovered easily.

So, some developments.

We will allow retailers to easily create a listing for their store and put it on the map.
The plan is to programmatically push all this locations to Coinmap!

Good news, but please make sure you read the whole thread about OpenStreetMap Bitcoin spamming - https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk/2013-December/068735.html - we have to find common ground there ... That, of course, applies to all CoinMap contributors, not just folks from CoinKite.

Right, why would it be spamming? If a retailer has a terminal he will effectively be a place accepting btc.

Ok, I think that sounds reasonable.  But it should still be made sure that the place is appropriately tagged as what it really is (probably with an appropriate shop= tag, but also other things like address, opening_hours and so on are welcome).  Also note that "programmatically pushing" may fall under the "import rules" of OSM, so I suggest you check your intentions also with the OSM mailing list to make sure no-one is offended and reverses your automatic edits.

If we don't make it easy/automated most mom and pop shops will never do it.

Beware. Open Street Map Foundation have abruptly stopped accepting bitcoin donations. Who knows if this lack of openness might extend to uses of their data that promote cryptocurrency, which is of course a commercial tool.

Edit: maybe I was being impatient with the layout of the OpenStreetMap Foundation's donation pages, they have 3 different webpages for donations and I managed to find the only one without bitcoin details.

They have restructured their webpresence a little, and the new Foundation website donation page makes no mention of a bitcoin option. But maybe this is just an oversight, I guess we will see whether they get their various donation pages to be consistent with each other. I couldn't see the link to the old wiki you've linked, I assumed it was now replaced, but I have found their layout a little difficult to navigate before (I once spent 10-15 minutes looking for their source code policy, and just assumed they didn't publish a statement on it. Someone else managed to find it, though)

I hate to be "that guy" but I've noticed several locations on coinmap in my area that have no physical presence. They might be businesses with contact information of people that will meet up or something or link to a facebook page or website. But no building that sells goods and services. I've considered removing them from coinmap.

So, I ended  up just saying "screw it" and removed them. There are a gazillion online shops that accept BTC, and they aren't on coinmap. Coinmap, and openstreetmaps, are maps, not meant for online spamming.

My next question is, is there a way to see all of the new businesses that are added to coinmap? It's really cool checking from time to time and seeing 20 new locations on coinmap, but I never know where they are. I'd like to see all of the new ones every day. Is this possible?

I agree. As stick put it earlier in this thread: if something is on a map, one expects it to be there. I got carried away myself initially and would post every bitcoin business I'd came across, to get "the numbers up".  After stick made his point I took the ones without physical presence off the map.

It would be cool indeed, but it doesn't add any direct use value, so I guess that is why it hasn't been implemented? I would like to hear a reply on this too.
