About 3 hours ago their were in stock, now they seem to be out of stock.
Might be the same issue as with ordering batch #3, somebody put chips into his basket and they are ""removed" from selling system for a while.

probably they have been selling out the avalon chips before they make the  announce they are going to sell the chips, so wouldn't be surprise seeing new players in the market very soon. Have to admit Avalon is Fast in doing things...the workers labor over  7 days a week and 2 to 3 shifts per day they are like robots that is why they can chunk out products very fast .. compares to butterfly.. only problems sometimes is the quality. Population is more than 1 billion and they are competing among themselves .. survival of the fittest..

I think they realized it's easier to sell 100,000 chips to one customer than to send a handful of chips to 1000s of customers.

Good for them IMO.  Smiley

It sucks they sold out already though for people wanting to pick some up, I'm sure they might sell another batch of these after batch 2/3 ship.

It's funny that draw the preorders just in the biggest drop in the price of bitcoin, and now here you take bitcoins to sell the product two months waiting for a raise ... I see quite scam.

You're blaming them for the volatility of the Bitcoin price?

By taking advantage of the volatility, which is not the same.
That has a name and is called speculation.

Edit: This is supposed to be a company that earns money of engineering and not speculation bitcoin price.

Quote
the lead time on the chips is 9 to 10 weeks.

I wish they had a sales staff because I would REALLY like to know if this 9 to 10 week lead time is concrete or subject to constant revision like most products in this industry. If I knew for certain they would ship 10 weeks after ordered then it's a no brainier but it's not hard to imagine 9-10 weeks turning into 4-6 months and bulk chips need a lot more love after they ship before they start to pay for themselves.

I didn't mind risking a couple hundred BTC on some Avalon pre-orders and haven't really minded the constantly slipping ship dates but for 780BTC I just don't have the stomach so no guts, no glory for me Sad

But this is a crazy place where you order chips from a company that has 10 week lead time and no reference design or data sheet!
I think Avalon might need to move into the real world and start shipping to existing customers first right?

BFL probably bought them all so they can finally build their miners

It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.

That thought crossed my mind more than once… I wouldn’t be surprised to see their "high density-high power" products use Avalon chips with the description discretely sanded off.  Roll Eyes

It is not a scam, more likely the bitcoin/USD price drop is due to Avalon's bitcoin payment processor (Bitpay?) converting (selling) thousands of bitcoins to fiat currency as people are ordering the ASIC chips from Avalon.  With the wide-swing, I wouldn't want to hold on to too many bitcoins for too long if I am Avalon, better to take profit in real currency now.  They can always generate more shiny new bitcoins while they are testing the Avalon machines.
