I say, that's one weakness of the bitcoin, there is always news of theft and hack. This is a serious problem, who can solve this? It certainly was all of us as a user of bitcoin. the existence of the new coins I am sure can overcome this.

not really. The answer is best security practises. Anything I can imagine of it being solved by a coin with any third party or reversing of transactions basically makes it lose the beauty of BTC and coins that work more or less the same way.

i.e. if you could reverse transactions after theft, it isn't really a crypto. Like the whole hard fork with ETH.

I see.  That's not the way it is presented in the original post.
How many times had you moved those coins in the previous days?

That's because I was writing this second hand. He didn't really know what / how to write and I did it from what he told me.

He did move it all out of a coinbase web wallet account (where he bought the BTC 4 years ago and had it until recently) to the other two accounts because Coinbase had told him they were closing his account. Right?

81BTC is not a small amount . Actually with the security of antivirus and window system he made another some mistakes also .Because he made the deposit of bitcoin. at the two adress only .
If I will be at the place of your friend ( who is cheated by someone ) then I will store my bitcoin not only at one to two adress  I will store my bitcoin at about at least 5-6 adress .
And after backup and exporting its private key I will delete the wallets then thier remains no chance of stealing .

This is getting more confusing.  OP said you sent coins to Bitpay.  Is it Bitstamp then?

Sorry. Was bitstamp. I corrected the top post.

I'm texting intermittently with him when he can answer back at work.

And he told me the original details over the phone late at night while he was freaking out, right after it happened, and I was going from memory + those two addresses he sent me.

you must think a little bit before you speak, and if you were a newbie instead of a full member i would have said he doesn't know.

what you say is like if i fill my wallet (physical wallet in my back pocket) with $100 bills worth of a couple of thousands and then put it open in a park bench and walk away and come back to it being stolen then say fiat system is f***d up because i lost my money.

I just wanted to say originally i've been using COINBASE btc exhcnage since like july of 2013 with absolutely no problems and out of the blue on 1/31/17 I get this email:
Hello,

Thank you for your interest in Coinbase. Our primary goal is to make digital currency safe and secure for our customers. Coinbase is a regulated Money Services Business under FinCEN (FinCEN.gov), and as part of achieving this goal, we are legally obligated to implement regulatory compliance mechanisms.

Upon careful review, we believe your account has engaged in prohibited use in violation of our Terms of Service and we regret to inform you that we can no longer provide you with access to our service. We respectfully request that you follow the on-screen instructions presented when you log into your Coinbase account to send any remaining balance offsite to an external address.

Should you have any questions or need assistance, please let us know and we'll be happy to help.

then after i saw that my jaw dropped like ugh... what the F....... ? So that's when coinbase said because of the account closure I HAD TO move my 87 bitcoins and that's when i did the blockchain.info wallet half in there and then half in Bitstamp it really caught me off guard the account closure with coinbase I've been using it since the beginning of my bitcoin adventure whatever you wanna call it lol....

81 bitcoins is sure a hefty price to pay in order to learn about cold storage when people have been giving this advice for free since 2011.

If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins.

Did you ask them what you were in violation of? Was it simply having too many coins or some other reason? That is quite strange for them to close your account like that.

long passwords that are all words only you would use are better. This:

OhMyGoDThisOrgasmIsTakingTooDamnLongYouMailman
is a better password than
0h$h!+

and easier to remember.
