Help, I cannot get the miner to work at all. Tried the CGMiner and failed as well.

I'm running feathercoinqt as a server using the -server option.

cgminer --scrypt -u miner -p password -o 127.0.0.1:8101 --worksize 256 -g 2 -I 13 --shaders 2048

tried :8100 as well

feathercoin.conf

server=1
daemon=1
rpcuser=miner
rpcpassword=password
rpcport=8100
port=8101

What am I doing wrong? The miner won't even start in the wallet.

Tried to get this setup to do solo mining with cgminer using scrypt with no luck.  Downloaded the wallet and daemon and ran both.  Then opened command prompt and copied the line for cgminer --scrypt -u miner -p SetSomeRandomPassword -o 127.0.0.1:8100 --worksize 256 -g 2 -I 13 --lookup-gap 2 --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-memclock 1400 --shaders 2048 and used my username and password as defined in the feathercoin.conf file I created...  getting a connection error that no servers could be used.

appreciate any help - my first alt coin to try and mine Smiley

*EDIT*  noticed the comment right above me about running the daemon with -server flag.  DOH!  seems to be getting further at least...   Not sure it is doing anything...

Do you think this coin is going anywhere?

After tomorrow? Probably not.

Hey if all the GPU miners abandon it like they did so many other chains (including BBQcoin for many months) that will be great, this will be yet another chain that CPU miners can quietly mine month after month maybe before the GPU bullies catch on again and come back like happened with BBQcoin and may yet happen with GeistGeld, Tenebrix, I0coin and so on...

It is really nice to have coins most people ignore, as that gives all those people who keep complaining about GPUs and FPGAs and ASICs something they can mine, often for many months at a stretch. In a few years such coins will have huge population of holders who mined with with just their CPUs over the years quietly, under the radar...

-MarkM-

 Grin Grin Grin

I see what you are poking at

While what you say is true for the long term investor, people new to crypto currencies do not want to wait for months or years to have anything of value. The idea of a CPU coin is to let the average person in on crypto coins, without using the expensive methods available to buy in today or invest in hardware and have the specialized knowledge to use it.

I really do see your point though about all the abandoned coins, I just think we are talking about different goals... Cheesy

Anyway,

I am going to shut down my rigs for now and give others a chance. It is always fun to mine a new chain, but it is time to let other have some fun  Cheesy

Remove port=8101
Add rpcport=8101
Add rcpallowip=*

Restart FeatherCoin
Wait for it to catch up
Solo mine with your parms above

I will NEVER ask for any kind of funds up front in a buy/sale of anything on bitcointalk.

Should be using the RPC port for mining 8100...

Add:
rpcallowip=*
to your feathercoin.conf file.  (You'll need to restart your FC client for the extra setting to work).

Well, this coin's definitely got a lot of start up attention compared to the other alt coins... In one day we have over 7 day's worth of PPC's thread in comments, 4 days worth of LTC's, 15 days worth over FRC, etc. So from what I get from that, I think this is the most fairly distributed coin so far Smiley Anyways I love the feather as opposed to a letter on the logo, so I'd hope for FTC to become mainstream.

Might be a stupid question... but did you restart the FTC client after making the .conf file?

No question is stupid for me lol.  Currently getting this and it appears to be working but since I am so new, not really sure.

Ok, I have to say something here because this is a pet peeve of mine:

DO NOT USE rpcallowip=*

Using that setting with a complete wildcard allows anybody/anything that can get to the daemon to issue rpc commands to it.

Restrict it down like:

rpcallowip=192.168.1.*

This will only allow hosts on the 192.168.1.0/24 (The most common home network) to issue rpc commands to that daemon.

Basically only use the wild card for your hosts and not network portion of your sub net mask.

I have tried everything, cgminer keeps crashing. The internal miner won't even come up and connect. feathercoind.exe should just be in the same directory as feathercoin-qt, right? That's how Litecoin worked before

for cgminer:   -s 1 --expiry 1 --queue 0     and knock your intensity down one or two

Since new blocks come every few seconds, you need to keep the latency low. Low expiry, low scan time, no queue work, and you need the intensity low enough so that things respond quickly on your computer.

RIP my old pools... sometimes BTC isn't life ;(

newtothescene, looks like it's working to me. Just wait and see if you get one, at this rate maybe you'll see your first at around 5-10 min cause that's how long until I saw my first when I had 1.5M/h. Anyways good luck and happy mining!

How do I verify that my featherqt.exe is actually running in server mode when I initialize it? Is there somewhere in the program to verify it? My miners just can't find the server...
