holy shit. are we gonna make it through 2016 without the world ending? it's starting to smell like end times. now all we need is for dolly parton to croak and we'll know doom is certain.

Easy on the hysteria. Turkish traditions don't indicate the end of times.

Supply reduced by 10400 BTCitcoins since halving!

Just that thought makes the growing pains of miners grow!  Cheesy

I was actually thinking of convincing everyone from a 100 kilometer radius to use their personal computer to start mining and make miners life harder!

Imagine if we could just educate 1 million people with strong personal computers to mine and decrease the supply the big miners receive! That would create an interesting shortage and price spike!

With ASICs I don't think it would matter if you convince a whole country to mine with computers, because they would get just a small hashpower and would mine nothing in practice

It is not about the gain! But for many... just like me I keep the computer On and running for 80-90% of the time all month! And even if I get 0.0005 per day or even per week! It would still be worth it.
And having 1 million people doing the same thing ... That would mean 182500 coins per year! ... Who cares? It is just electricity! We pay it anyway! Spiting the mining supply is a good reason enough!

Current mining rewards from 400 MegaHash GPU

per Month   0.00001565 BTC   $0.01

Also, your pc being on is very different from your pc being under load.  You will spend $50 to make $0.01.

So ... a 14 TeraHash mining thingy costs 2000$ ... that will make 0.00182583BTC per day based on your number! And 0.66642795BTC per year... But considering the difficulty increase... 0.4BTC would be more appropriate! ... But...

But I am not talking about short term profitability... I'm talking about throwing money on the window for a future possibility! Smiley ...

Meaning that with those 2000$ it would probably be more advantageous to just buy 3x 666$ coins... Now!

And I knew someone would bite! I lured you in guud! Cheesy ... Meaning if we convince a few million people to buy coins... Especially if sometime in spring it will be somewhere between 10.000$ and 50.000$ per coin... that 14TH gizmo will be better then, than now... And it will force the price to go to 100k$ faster.... and probably by the year 2021 - 2022 ... for each 1xBTCitcoin will be worth somewhere near 2-3$ millions per coin?

Sorry if I was misleading ... I do not advice anyone in buying useless mining equipment! I was just proving a point! For people to understand the situation with a much broader perspective! The solution is just buy and hold to create a shortage! It would be a better solution for the pumping of the price! Also if people could create a small business or if they already have a small or big business... they should accept bitcoin to homogenize and secure the future!

Is the coup attempt real or some false flag government made to justify they staying forever in power and the state of exception?

BTC users may laugh today, but tomorrow the Internet may be controlled and BTC forbidden or restricted

Already on.
"Access was restricted in Turkey on Friday to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube shortly after news broke that the military coup was under way, according to two internet monitoring groups." https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2016/jul/15/turkey-coup-attempt-military-gunfire-ankara

The good professor is petitioning the SEC. Charming. Smiley
https://www.sec.gov/comments/sr-batsbzx-2016-30/batsbzx201630-2.htm

That is a bit better argued than his normal misleading posts.  He doesn't deviate so much from facts in his attempt to denigrate bitcoin, yet his emphasis of bitcoin's non-tangibility and failure to add value because of it's "pure" speculation seem to be exaggerated attempts to play into fear of the unknown and fear of the innovative nature of bitcoin.

I really wish he has some BTCs stashed for the upcoming post September 2016 Bankmargeddon... (Financial) Winter is coming professor. Get yourself a coat. Wink

what a prick. i knew it. but didn´t think he would go that far. what idiots like him do not get: they are making bitcoin more resilient. every crusader that is not able to kill bitcoin will one day realize that he has been used as a free sparring partner.

What a prick. My thoughts exactly.

How can someone who owns zero bitcoins spend so much time on Bitcoin forums and stress about shit like this? He's like the neighbour who peers through the window if someone parks outside his house or moans at kids having fun. Miserable bastard, get a life.

Edit. Just because he is intelligent it doesn't mean he can piss on everyone's fire.

Does the low volume means no one is spending or buying coins? Also, if the volume is so low why does it not affect the price?

Does this mean people are just hodling?

Just trying to work out the whole low volume thing.

There are around 1600 BTC being generated every day, so people must buy BTC to price don't drop. The miners won't just hodl everything because they have to pay bill and taxes.

And low compared to what?

Volume is lower than before the halving because the halving was a hyped event, now things are back to normal

It depends how you classify low volume. I can see two big bars on the Bitfinex 24 hour chart, and each of them is above 1000 Bitcoins and mostly buying. That's low volume by Bitfinex standards, but it's eaten the 1600 BTC generated today. After the volume increases again the price will probably increase, this low volume's enough to keep the price reasonably stable.

Military coup in turkey.
Bitcoin up?

Discuss....

- 2 Rockets have been launched from a helicopter in to the public television building.

- Martial Law is in place.

- The country is lead by a "Council of Peace". That has allegedly taken power of the country. (WTF is that lol)

- I see a live feed of tanks on the streets.

- Their supermarkets are empty and everything is bought including the water and biscuits!

- Shootings taking place at their parliament building.

- Airport is closed. And all flights are cancelled towards Turkey from all countries from Europe, and probably the world.

*Edit:

- Erdogan(corrupt president) is still free and gives tweets. (LOL)

- My opinion is that this is another Syria/Egypt/Lybia/Yemmen/Afganistan/Iraq scenario taking place!

*Edit2:

- China wakes up in 1-2 hours. And it is almost 8AM in Japan. Australia and New Zealand already awake. But it is Sunday and banks are closed!

*Edit3:

- More and more people are in the streets. Flipping cars/yellow taxies and blocking roads.

- Crowds go to the ground and hide behind cars when shoots on the streets that they blocked start.

- It sounds like a machine gun / automatic weapon fires to stop the people advance.

- I see people on a tank, jumping on it. Cheesy

*Edit4:

- Turkey is a NATO member country with their military, and they have almost 50% of the total NATO ground soldiers military force.

*Edit5:

- I see people hitting a tank with broomsticks!  Cheesy

- Istanbul main bridge is blocked and people are trying to cross it, but they are kept away by being shot at.

- All maritime ports / airports are closed.

- Turkey president is another city, hiding. And he is giving interview live from Skype.

- An army helicopter has been shot down. (*edit:Probably the one that shot those rockets in to the Turkey State Public TV station building.)

- Turkey president asked for political asylum from Germany after being declined for his plane/helicopter to land on the capital airport.

- But Germany declined his asylum request. (*edit: uncertain, conflicted, unclear)

*Edit6:

- 17 police officers are dead.

- Helicopter shooting from the air with heavy automatic weapons on the people from the bridge.

- I hear jet fighter planes sounds from a live feed of someone on social media while the helicopter keeps shooting.

- Obama: "The new government must be supported. And has our full support!" (*edit: HOLY F'ing SH!T!)

*Edit7:

- Most of the TV stations are down.

- Internet connection is down! Or going Off and On again.

- The fighter jet plane shot down one of the helicopters.

- Borders with Bulgaria are closed.

*Edit8:

- The military head general is being kept under the custody and arrest of his follow military mates.

- European leaders are in Mongolia in a European-Asian economic tour. (*edit: And some of them have interrupted their tour and returning home.)

- Turkey president is not in power anymore. But he keeps streaming from Skype.  Cheesy

- The military has control over a TV station.

*Edit9:

- Greece army is on high alert.

- There are conflicts inside the Turkish army itself.

- The power grid is down, almost everything seems to be in the dark, blackout in some parts of Istanbul.

*Edit10:

- BTCitcoin is holding the 666$ position.

- Bombing taking place near or inside the Ankara parliament building.

*Edit11:

- Helicopter shooting toward the parliament building.

- Ankara airspace closed.

- I see rockets flying from jet planes. More tanks and military transporters in the streets.

- Turkish Public TV station back online.

*Edit12:

- Civilians have taken control of one of the tanks and confiscated the weapons of the soldiers that where inside the tank.

*Edit13:

- The NATO anti-isis military base that supervises Syria military operations are not involved and will not get involved in any political power assistance.

*Edit14:

- Things seems to have calmed down, and seem to be toned down.

*Edit18:

- Germany accepted Erdogan asylum request. (uncertain, conflicted, unclear)

*Edit19:

- Footage of military helicopter shooting civilians near the Istambul bridge or near the bridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j4D7o0aIUU

No but if the ask side gets eaten into it's considered buying and selling if the bid side gets eaten into.

It's hard to say. Generally you would assume that green bar means buying and red bar means selling but it's not always that simple.

Let's say the price is 664.5 and the ask side is just 1 btc to get to 665 so somebody buys 1 btc and the price is now 665 then say somebody puts up a bid wall at 664.8 for 100 btc and 90 of those goes through.

So now the price is 664.8 and 1 btc has been bought and 90 has been sold but the chart still shows that 91 btc has been bought.

I don't pay attention to volume a lot though so somebody else could perhaps clarify it further.

Check the 1.5k volume bar on this chart. You can see the price going up in almost a straight line during that trading period. I assume that means the ask side got eaten into. If the price had gone down in almost a straight line I would assume the opposite.

He is not intelligent at all. He read a lot - did not understood. I saw many of his posts here before i finally ignored him, like talking to a brick wall. He was not able to (or pretend not to) understand core computer science principles, even though he supposed to be a prof in it...well, Keynes was an economic prof - i suppose, and look how good his theories worked out in real life..

podyx, thanks for the explanation.

You're looking at (at a glance) 15 minute bars? One bar != 1 transaction. Try 5, 3, or 1 minute resolutions here: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bitfinex/btcusd, and you'll see that 1.5k bar get broken down into a bunch of little ones.
As podyx pointed out, it's not that simple. You'll see green 1k bars from 499 market sells/501 market buys, for instance (1 BTC "ate into the ask side"). If the ask side is thin, you'll see the price shoot up.
