Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Here in New Jersey we will be having a red moon eclipse tonight. Moon is about 55% covered right now.

I saw it last night too... it was fully covered at least an hour and a half. maybe even a bit longer...

I had a really great view from my location at the beginning of the eclipse, while it was still starting to cover it, and then about half way through I had to commute from one location to another.. and my view was not so good within the commute or even by the time i got to my new destination, even though by the time I arrived at my new destination, I  could see (verify) that the eclipse was finishing (coming out on the other side).

Only 4% of nearly 120,000 Bitcoin (around $7 billion today) stolen by a hacker from crypto exchange Bitfinex in 2016 have been laundered so far—and it will take the thieves over a century to cash out their bounty in full, according to blockchain intelligence firm Elliptic.

https://cryptoslate.com/bitfinex-hacker-will-need-114-years-to-launder-7-billion-worth-of-stolen-bitcoin/

You deserve a batslappening for that post, Hueristic.

You realize that your cited May 2021 article is outdatted by more than 3 months because in early February, the US DOJ announced that they caught the hacker(s) and recovered about 94k of those bitcoin.

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/two-arrested-alleged-conspiracy-launder-45-billion-stolen-cryptocurrency

Yeah, the US DOJ might not be telling the truth.. and there might be some other shenanigans going on, but it still seems that events occurring on or after February 2022 need to be accounted for in terms of possible meaningful discussions of various fall outs of that particular 2016 Bitfinex hack.

Since everyone is calling a bear market, I wonder if the badger will disappoint them in the same way it disappointed the 100k laser eyes bull crowd last year.

One thing I've learned over the years is that BTC rarely goes along with the crowd's expectation.

We have been in a bear market (at least as far as almost all on chain params are concerned) since April 2021.
It is obvious to me that Nov-Dec 2021 nominal peak was a simple reactionary move to the 'premature' bull termination caused by the chinese.
yes, we should have moved to a 'regular' peak of probably at least 100-120K by June-Sept 2021 if not for that abrupt halt, then we tried to resume and, basically, failed (made a double top, though).
People (myself included) were hoping for a higher second top, but it did not really happen in the same way as in 2013. The momentum was weak.

Now, we are fast-declining from the 35-40K flat similarly to 2018.
My hope is that since we did not spike exponentially in this cycle, it would mean that we drop 60% instead of usual 80% or more, but nobody said that it is a law.
BTC already done about 62% decline at 25.5, which is close to one of Fib numbers, accidentally.
70% would be 20.4K.

Having said that, the bounce should come sooner or later (maybe to 35-40K).
We already declined 7 wk straight (new all time record) thanks to luna shenanigans.

If you think luna was bad wait till eth self destructs with the switch to pos.

as for the red moon. I watch it cover and then said fuck it and did not stay up to see the uncovering.

Have to say it look cool when it was basically all covered in a red shadow..

or as my flat earth buds say a tick of projection.

unlikely to immediately derp, but who knows.
A lot of money would be riding that up and/or down for sure.
If it crashes, POW coins (and btc being the largest by far) would actually benefit, so i don't see a correlation there.

re Moon-I was observing it by both the naked eyes and a small telescope.
This one was fairly low on the horizon, so easier to see than the prior one when it was almost up almost vertically in my location.
The most interesting parts are when it is only partially done (partial eclipse; looks like a piece is missing), then, of course the full eclipse stage when it was brown-purplish and another partial.
Complete was quite long, actually, i was surprised at that.

LOL, still not positive they are the only ones with those keys but yeah, I was drunk and have apparently lost track of time. Smiley

Still think its good to know how hard it is to launder bitcoin.

I think someone already bat slapped me so better luck on the next one. Tongue

These Luna guys hurt the Bitcoin price, because they dumped 80kBTC in less than a week.
If they hadn't done that, probably no-one would have noticed. It would have been just another two shitcoins biting the dust.

I think when meth starts dumping, people will get out and start buying BTC ..along with fiat, stablecoins, and other shitcoins.

Yeah, maybe some bear whales will try to dump, nevertheless.
But all in all, I don't expect tens of thousand BTC being thrown onto the market within days like this time....

(But who knows, maybe there will be some kind of extra heavy FUD, or the Gox coins get distributed at the same moment)

One day I hope to see a Total Solar Eclipse...

Looking at the map - https://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEatlas/SEatlas3/SEatlas2021.GIF there are 3 good possibility:

2024 - Mexico, U.S. and Canada
2026 - Spain
2027 - Spain, Algeria

We should have 100k by then, right?

Some of you guys, now saying that we've been in a bear market since last year but making that call at the bottom of a bear market, make me chuckle.

Such amazing insight, guys. I mean, whatever would we do without you?  j/k Grin

How about we define bear market as "Price hits a new ATH, but then falls and takes too long to return to that price to suit bitcoiners."  Grin

Here is my positive take on things:

1. China fud is finally behind us. Thanks goodness.
2. Luna was always going to collapse, we are extremely lucky it happened so quickly before Do Kwon's BTC bag got too big.  He was planning to buy $10B worth of BTC....

The only thing really worrying me at the moment is ETH - it's a classic Rube Goldberg machine that will blow up catastrophically one day. It's now so big it will trigger an epic shit storm.

2024-just a few hours trip from here during April -nice weather, usually, at this time (around 18-20oC, 70F).
2026-never been to Spain. August, probably a bit hot, but going straight through Barcelona...nice!
2027-Gibraltar (maybe on a cruise)?
