This doomsday scenario was echoed by another used called 'Proudhon', who has contributed to the forum for three years. The user said bitcoin's fall from $1,200 to its current level of around $900 will "continue until bitcoins are worth $0."

Reporters these days........

"One forum member, using the name 'Bitcoinlitcoinbtcltc' said that after 31 January, "Chinese can no longer do anything related to bitcoins. They can not withdraw money from Chinese exchanges. So the bitcoins they have on Chinese exchanges are 'dead'. They can not trade those bitcoins in for real money, or withdraw that money. It's like that money doesn't exist anymore."

This doomsday scenario was echoed by another used called 'Proudhon', who has contributed to the forum for three years. The user said bitcoin's fall from $1,200 to its current level of around $900 will "continue until bitcoins are worth $0."

Much of Proudhon's comments from "confirmed sources" have been dismissed by other forum users, but the sense of unknowing shared across the community is hard to ignore.

I know it's only January but Proudhon's stunning coup with his troll parody making the news definitely makes him worthy of a nomination for the Wall Observer thread 'personality of the year' 2014.

I was just flying back from Edinburgh tonight and was checking the thread on my phone and drinking a cup of average tea.  When I saw the article I burst out laughing and sprayed tea everywhere.

Made my day.

EDIT: Punctuation (tough on a phone!)

this is hilarious, its like they don't know Proudhon is probably max leveraged long and trolls such absurd bearish comments only to make the bear case look ridiculous.

he will never confirm that but we all know its true  Wink

It would be epic if Proudhun gets quoted on CNBC.  Shocked Grin
More epic they play the Proudhon song as an intro to Bitcoin doom and gloom.

Time to fondly remember the greatest proudhon moment. It occurred at the April 2013 peak, when he finally turned from bear to bull...

Well, if we made it to $266 then maybe I was wrong and the market is growing enough to sustain the growth.

Followed by a mass sell off by all.

7 AM in China on the 31st, the world hasn't imploded.

i wonder how long the market will wait.

my guess is we will be looking to BTCChina for volume to pick up, this will confirm CNY deposits  are in fact coming in and chinaman is back in the game. this could take a few days... i'm sure we'd all feel more comfortable with an official word from chinese government that this deposit method is permissible... but my guess is we won't get that, and we'll simply think no news is good news. IF china doesn't not accept this, and forces BTCChina to close, i wouldn't expect a huge crash (i think we'd just erase any gains starting from today, and maybe dip a little lower...), I think that china being out of the game is mostly priced in by now, and with all the gr8 news coming from the west i'd say any sizeable panic sell because of a offical chain bitcoin ban is tremendous buying opportunity.

will china let it be? if so how high will bitcoin go!? if not, do you agree the subsequent crash can be viewed as an emotionally driven panic sell off / good buying opportunity?

so many questions so little time!

bitcoin is not boring!

Back to the hearings... this was the statement that basically negated the need for the hearings in the first place. We do not need permission to use bitcoin.

A quite different tone, though, was struck by Carol van Cleef, an attorney specializing in financial regulation, who urged Lawsky and his panel towards speed in establishing standards. "Time is of the essence," van Cleef exhorted. "Innovation will adapt to new regulation but it will not wait for regulation. [Bitcoin service development] will shift to other jurisdictions, taking jobs and the resulting wealth with it. The true losers will be U.S. residents."
