To me it seems it's only a matter of time before we get there, where we should actually be. I expect everything if we get to 450 which would be a very good base to start rising again

It seems that Bitcoin is going to be quite a bit stronger after this particular fight.

I recall several months ago, possibly in July or August 2015 when the various XT and Classic proponents were initially setting forth various blocksize limit increase proposals, that were really coups in disquise of some supposed necessary technical fix.

Some of us were likely caught off guard by the initial proposals because on their face they seemed "reasonable."

In some sense, we are lucky that many of the pushers of this XT/Classic agenda were not crafty enough to tricking various core developers or miners into believing that either the unnecessary technical fix was needed or that a change in Bitcoin's governance would be a good thing.

Likely core supporters and a variety of other folks in the community are more aware now of some of these kinds of coup potentials (which are likely to be attempted again... but maybe enough awareness has been raised to show coup attempts for the phoniness of what they are - which seem to be attempts to undermine bitcoin and to cause it to be easily malleable - which would have taken away from bitcoin's main contributory feature, and that is censorship resistance.......).

LN is an other story because it is off-chain. just the start and the end is manifested in the blockchain. the other whole lifecycle of certain LN activities does not affect the blockchain.

SegWit is a speration of data from the blockchain which is not immediate necessary for txs. and because of this you can see blocks of 3.6 MB. the data which is necessary is stored in the blockchain and the other data is seperated. for example in sum you have data of 3.6 MB but the necessary data which is stored in the block is just 0.9 MB.


EDIT: I cannot see the exact amount of data which is stored in the block and the exact amout of data whic is excluded from the block

i guess as soon segwit is activated and LN nodes occur we will see stress tests to attack the mainnet. then we know what for a amout of txs (on-chain and off-chain) is possible with 1MB+SegWit+LN.

imagine if we will come to a consensus to reduce the blocksize to 0.5 MB in 2017/2018 because of fees are to low.

The kind of usage we have today doesn't fill a 1MB block segwit or not.
