I don't expect the price to recover so quickly, but those are the breaks.

Not when the financial news section about bitcoin currently reads:

This grotesque bubble is blowing apart right now

Please go in your silver hole and stay there.

It's funny that some time ago I was thinking about buying PM's... but after all the reminders r0ach was constantly doing here it made me seriously think and research about it and then I realised it was a really bad idea. The transaction costs are astronomical, the liquidity almost non existent if you want something close to spot price, the storage and mobility is cumbersome....

I did buy more BTC instead. Thanks r0ach! Smiley

P.S.: Anyway I still think I will buy one 1KG silver bar before end of year just as a decorative thing or for paperweight usage. I will put it right in front of my zimbawean dollars.

Is gold even a good investment right now? I must admit it'd be pretty cool to have a 1KG gold or silver bar in a glass cabinet in your home.

gold price can be heavily manipulated.
1.)central banks are holding 10 times world's yearly production. They can release reserves when gold is expensive and refill when its cheap. they can manipulate price through futures markets as well.
2.)miners can increase/ decrease production accordingly as well
3.)total amount of gold produced (and relatively quickly available for sale) is still rising, and only very little is lost or used for industry

If you can buy tungsten directly instead of being passed off as gold it is a lot cheaper.

Yep, as a novelty item a 1Kg bar is awesome. But 1KG of gold is a bit expensive to me just as a decorative item. On the other hand 1KG silver bar is only a bit more than 1/4 BTC.

I will buy an ounce of gold when it's 0.1 BTC and even that's a bit steep as far as I'm concerned. I may wait for 0.05 or so. Metals in general hold precisely zero interest for me but I'd like to have a lump to throw at people for fun.

I wonder how many people from here have paid 10-50 BTC for an ounce or more. A fair few. I would melt it down in a rage.

The Anti Semite can do what makes it happy. I do wish it would stop ejaculating its opinions in our little faces.

1 kg is disappointingly small (edit: unfortunately I don't know this from experience) due to the high density of gold. When do we reach parity with a standard 400 oz (12.4 kg) bar?

I bought 2 silver coins for 60 BTC (which cost $120). Fortunately, they also have bitcoin attached to them, so I'm quite happy with them.

Worries about a network split have even started to rattle national regulators and trade groups. After holding discussions over the possible currency split, the Japan Cryptocurrency Business Association says member exchanges will suspend trading of bitcoin beginning Aug. 1, according to a Bloomberg headline.

There are many things way more expensive than 1 KG silver bar in a home. In fact it would be great if they just take the silver and run.

BTC cryptocurrency high price for  fiat are just a war with  physical gold. It's just another "wall street" -make money from nothing.. just  bull/bear x times...  Walls street is not working now . becouse everything is a fraud and regulatory and inside information from congress about the future contracts ..
Also it is ONLY  a war with  China and Russia which collects physical gold as much they can .. And also war with chinese gov.  on capital "flight out" .. but its over slow..
Someone sold paper gold to manipulate...not long ago

Some people are pumping bitcoin to create like: "new gold" or expensive chip  ...  Because they (usa-petrodollar) have nothing real value to buy real gold   Kiss  they only export the war ..

So they dreamed that a BTCchip will have a value of 500k (like johny mccocaina)  And they hope ,will can for that  worthless value BTC created only with "pump style" in the future to buy something valuable or humans real work... or that physical gold if some fool sell them for bt.. Cheesy

But some people create like eth as an opportunity... Clashing competition as another worthless token to buy other worthless token.  pumping eth will now very smart think.. to buy more bitcoins later .. Cheesy 1000usd for eth  will nice for start ..  so they bitcoiners - MUST raises the price up on the top  , becouse othervise bitcoin will be cannibalize with other cryptos

Also if you earn some fiat  on the higher price of bitcoin... It's like you're printing home the next dollar. Inflation is growing ..  But compared to the one as fed digitaly print usd it's nothing Grin

So it is clear  why the price of bitcoin is definitely not going to fall(!). It's a tool to buy real values later ... last "fight falling empire"

its like  when you got rich in 80-90 years on the wall street. Today it does not work much , so they have to look for and invent new ways. basically it's the same."money for nothing and chicks for free"

Canada sold all gold soo they have now only - hope in "sacred bitcoin" to buy some real values later .. just for exmpl

But whole world situation is constantly changing...
