Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

A solid piece, but why are we languishing at $4K, then? From my perspective, bitcoin always does something least expected. In the summer of 2017 I was afraid that a split would be very difficult to digest. Instead, we moved from $1K almost straight to 20K. I was expecting correction, but i wasn't "really" expecting a 83% plunge that is definitely NOT typical for $200 bil value assets, unless it is a commodity like sugar. I expected smarter minds in finances (WS) picking up crypto because there is no other way out of the current economic predicament. They got to realize this at some point. However, lately, reading upon all horrible stories about environmental destruction (read on insect apocalypse, for example-it is all true as I have my own life observations confirming this OR testosterone levels reduction going on for several generations already), I start to think that maybe we, humans, set ourselves on some kind of a suicide path. If that is the case, ignoring crypto (as a salvation) is EXACTLY what doomed societies are going to do. Maybe a Great Filter (of Fermi's paradox fame) is not behind, but right in front of us. Count me ( at the moment) as disappointed. All good points. Blockchain will certainly disrupt many industries, and therefore can be considered inevitably successful. However the value of Cryptocurrencies is a complicated matter. Because Blockchain disintermediates agencies, and distributes much of their profits to the end user (who was ultimately paying), the opportunities for profit from Blockchain are relatively small. Put another way, the profit from a decentralised system is difficult to centralise. It is by definition, distributed. Cryptocurrency value is derived mainly from speculative activities, and is by no means assured into the future. People that consider blockchain inevitably successful and consider cryptocurrencies doubtful simply don't know what they're talking about! They don't understand that a blockchain without built-in cryptocurrency is nonsense from economic point of view!

Well, yes, could be, but does it not depend on the purpose of the particular ledger ? The actual future ROI in any one Blockchain project is what I was referring to.

I don't want to sound like Ibian, but we probably have headed our boat for catastrophe. Not much we can do now though. May as well enjoy Rome before it burns.

Fairly quiet on the markets - the pennant continues. We sit in the upper third of the pennant But the daily has just closed with a red doji - suggesting a downwards inclination for today. In favor of the bulls, shorts remain uncomfortably high and need a good shaking Attempted forecast: slow downward drift within confines of pennant. Support around $4040 will be tested and could result in a leg down. If $4040 continues to hold, then bulls may have temporary control.

I don't want to sound like Ibian, but we probably have headed our boat for catastrophe. Not much we can do now though. May as well enjoy Rome before it burns. I doubt Nero is as bad as his rap is. Been thinking lately. Nietzsche was a genius. The kind of genius that the most intelligent men of our time consider a genius. Freud and Jung both studied him. He had unbelievable foresight. He was also insane. He was in love with a pidgeon. God is dead, and we have killed him! What happens now? Without a greater meaning in life, man will succumb to nihilism, and crave dictatorship, for nihilism is not acceptable. And many millions will die. That was his prognostication, and as it turned out, he was right. Suppose he could see how bad the past century would be, and nobody else could. Who was there to talk to? To understand him? How could it lead to anything but madness? Who in your physical life do you know that see what is coming?

the extreme short powerful answers man...... that all yours, don't make more than 1 line text Considering how most of us on this thread believe in bitcoin and in that sense decentralisation, assigning people (eg Mic has contests) "ownership/control to some activity seems to be the "Devils Work" - suggest you rebrand as Satan - for which you could get a hat from Homer, a contest From Mic as to your level of deviousness etc. Sort of scooping the Grand Prize and over topping everyone. Be quick though - others here might grab this idea and run with it.

It is mt. gox damn it....from what I figure they have to dump $240 million in usd of BTC a month, to get the liguidation done by the end of this year....*them
trustees want their cut and the Japanese Gov't wants this all over with)
thus, we will go to 9k and drop to 7k and rinse wash repeat for a month or two...then the mt. gox trustees will have a timeline, say end of the year and we will
drop to 4k ...it is gonna suck!
Wow, such a prediction!
