Why do so many still say, "bitcoin was hacked" when they really mean an exchange was robbed.

Do they think the "dollar was hacked" every time a bank is robbed?

The dollar was actually hacked once the fed decided to print as much as they wanted.

PEOPLE WILL REALIZE  BTC

No comment... Roll Eyes

Maybe that's a bottom? Tongue

Yes yes the price went up slightly, much excitement.

In other news, Roger Stone got swatted in the middle of the night. https://thehill.com/homenews/media/429104-surveillance-footage-of-stone-arrest-aired-by-sinclair

Swatted is not the proper term in this situation because it was an official arrest.

Swatted is a practice of making shit up about someone to attempt to cause their location to be mistakenly visited by swat, in order to attempt to harass them.

How about a hat for 33bitcoin, who seems to want a hat?  You could make him/her a JJG imitation hat, but the one being worn currently is an exact digital replica... we have a lack of digital scarcity problem here.

idk just thought it looked cool, no1 made me one

@Xhomer:  Could you make this good sir "full member" (hat stealer/sharer) a nice, individually-tailored hat?   Wink

Dabs too:  Dabs needs a hat.

Nice.  Very goddamn nice.

HM are you still shorting??

Yes I have a small open short position but I don’t give a damn. It is only a third of last month’s trading profits.  It’s a 5x leverage and nothing would make me happier than being liquidated.

The relation between Mt.Gox and Kraken

In June 2011, Jesse Powell hops a last-minute flight to Tokyo to help what was then the largest Bitcoin exchange in the world, MtGox, recover from a hacking attack.......After seeing how poorly MtGox is run, and knowing that the exchange is the most critical part of the Bitcoin ecosystem, Jesse decides to build the first truly professional exchange
source :https://blog.kraken.com/post/891/kraken-is-born/

Jesse Powell knew Mt. Gox was not long for this world more than two years before the once-dominant bitcoin exchange went bankrupt in February.
source : https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-08-17/mt-gox-insider-s-kraken-exchange-to-open-in-japan-next-month

In a 6 Jan 2015 interview, Kraken bitcoin exchange CEO Jesse Powell discussed being appointed by the bankruptcy trustee to assist in processing claims by the 127,000 creditors of Mt. Gox. .....An article in the New York Times pointed out that the process of returning funds could significantly benefit Kraken because creditors will probably have to create a Kraken account to get their money back and some of them might continue using the exchange.

The New York Attorney General's Office began a fact finding investigation in April 2018 on the measures taken by cryptocurrency exchanges to protect their customers and fight market manipulation  and money laundering. The New York State attorney general warned that the Kraken cryptocurrency exchange might be breaking the law.

The investigation was not welcomed by Jesse Powell, the CEO of Kraken, who declared that the investigation was hostile and bad for business. Powell refused to comply with the inquiry.

instead of helping Mt.Gox, he set up a devil plan to dominate the market for his own interests. That's why Kraken is like a bank system that not benefit the cryptocurrency. anyway he said it "investigation was hostile and bad for business"

The problem I see is that according to forum rules:

Quote
31. User avatars must not contain NSFL or NSFW content, infringe on copyright or attempt to impersonate a user.[10]

He is currently breaking forum rules. It would be a good proof of good faith if he just stopped using YOUR avatar until he has his own customized one by xhomerx.

Just saying.....

I think that I understand what you are saying that there is a kind of misleading effect from avatar use... but I think that "impersonation" requires some level of "intent" to impersonate... direct evidence or inferred.

I don't think that, so far, 33bitcoin's conduct rises to such level...... but since I am a pretty regular poster, there could be some deceptive impact (unintentional creating an impression)  that could happen to mislead from the use of my avatar.

idk just thought it looked cool, no1 made me one

Maybe if Xhomer makes 33bitcoin a hat avatar, then we can just get 33bticoin to wear it and resolve any further ambiguity without too much extra drama?

O.k.  So you are wanting to suggest that the term "swatting" is appropriate because of the excessive level of force and seeming showmanship that is going on with this already high profile case?

Infected men tend to break more rules than their uninfected peers, and infected women tend to pay them more heed. A sincere apologize... I was scammed. In short the pivx team launched recently another chain (at least that I know), while pretending to care about pivx and taking the devs funds of course. For some it's another proof on how centralized and scammy those alts are. 0 independant devs, and who knows what shenigans they are running in reality.

a picture worth a thousand words.

Sorry.

I don't think anybody here gives a damn about some losers and their worthless shitcoin(s).  Grin

But many of us do give a damn about people who are taken in by these scams and appreciate hearing them called out.

^ Just so you can finally shut up repeating the same old argument over and over. Yes, we are going to a cashless society. That is probably already irreversible, it's just a matter of time.
No, I don't think states are supporting Bitcoin for that nor they really need to but if that were the case it would go to the moon first.

Now just fucking stop FFS.

What do you mean we are going to a cashless society?

The only time I have used cash in the past 12 months was when I was defeated by a parking machine in a UK seaside town which would not let me out without a pound coin.  I had to go to an ATM and then to a pub to buy a beer so I could get a coin.  Fucking savages in the UK.

Well that's exactly what I mean. I still profusely use cash because of reasons. Most people don't because of convenience. But we are going onto a path where soon will come the day that we won't be able to use cash (for the most part) even if WE WANTED TO.

Most euro countries you can not even buy a high end TV set using cash. It's forbidden by law. They will keep decreasing the max limits over time.

Why?

Because cash is way harder to control than banking fiat or even Bitcoin.

cash is the ultimate privacy token. which is why powers that be hate it (even though they control the supply) ;-)

don't write it off. it has uses. Going cashless will mean less freedom

Speaking of the powers that be, does anyone know how many variations of Dragon Balls there are?  I spent a few hours watching old Dragon Balls videos on YouTube just to figure out what character was in afbitcoins avatar... turns out it isn't Vegeta!  Who knew?

The next bitcoin halvening is in ~472 days.

Currently 1800 new coins mined everyday.

That will be cut in half to 900 with an 1.8% inflation rate.

Why does this matter?

It marks the date when bitcoin becomes less inflationary than central banks annual rate target of below 2%.

https://twitter.com/AlecZiupsnys/status/1093568234647887876

The launch if the Bitcoin Network in 2009 was a global earthquake.

Now is time for the tsunami.

If the previous halvenings led to 100x increase of price without institutional investors, imagine what will happen if they come. One of the biggest ETF companies in USA stated recently that they expect at least 10bil investment in Bitcoin ETF per year. And this is only one company. At current prices that would be 2.8 mil bitcoins! When (not if!) bakkt is approved it will surely lead to an ETF approval may be this year. After all, bakkt is initiated by NYSE and the ETF is initiated by CBOE. It is not a coincidence that after the refiling of the CBOE ETF proposal, SEC created a new crypto division to study the ledger technology and to see that there are no gaps in it. According to some lawers this most probably means that they intend to give an approval based on a positive report about the distributed ledger technology. So, while the small fish dump their precious bitcoins in the daily trade, they will miss the shocking explosion in the price in the coming 2 years.  We shall wait and see.  Wink

Edit. There is a new tweet by Hester Peirce confirming the leaked interview by the Democrat SEC commisioner P. Jackson about a coming ETF approval.
https://twitter.com/HesterPeirce/status/1093604854709264384
Also lets recall a recent interview of J. Clayton:
https://bitcoinexchangeguide.com/jay-clayton-optimistic-about-blockchain-and-cryptocurrencies-emerging-investment-landscape/
...Jay Clayton seems very optimistic about the future of the cryptocurrency space. During a testimony that he gave to the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Clayton, the chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, said that blockchain and virtual currencies will facilitate capital formation.
During the hearing, he emphasized his optimism about the development of distributed ledger technology (DLT). According to what he said, blockchain will be providing new investment opportunities for traditional investors, including institutions.
