It wasn't "news". It was a random tweet with a picture of a bunch of boxes.

Today, we’re pleased to update you on the launch of bitcoin futures contracts developed by Bakkt in collaboration with ICE Futures U.S. and ICE Clear US. We’ve worked closely with the CFTC to develop contracts that both meet our customers’ needs for trading, transparency, and market certainty, and are also compliant with Federal regulations.

2019 vs 2018 Roll Eyes

The only real question is will it crash before it makes it through the Finex wall or just after.
We're not going to crash except on the surface of the fucking moon.

Seriously though, has bakkt done anything yet?

Yes, a lot of vaporware/announcements/etc.

Brief recap:
Bakkt trading one-day physical futures would open the floodgates to institutional money to Bitcoin.
It would be definitely a breakthrough for a variety of technical reasons, but they are holding it back. I have the feeling they are technically ready (no reason to doubt it), but the G agencies are pressing on "moral suasion" to restrain from initiating acrivity.
This is only my gut feeling, no proofs.

It seems that getting this custody licence is a formality and then there will be no need for CFTC approval, because of the self-certification rule. Once such regular markets are operational, there will be no excuse for SEC but to approve the first Bitcoin ETF. Institutions are pushing to enter, because they see what is happening now. But it is better to let them in after we pass 10K. The estimated institutional $100bln invesments are welcome on the road to 100K$. Anyway, we are going there with or without them.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/ice-pushes-for-bakkt-bitcoin-custody-license-cftc-approval-imminent

ICE, the operator of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), recently acquired a cryptocurrency custodial service and are mulling plans to register Bakkt as a licensed trust in the state of New York.
If successful, these latest moves would see Bakkt become a registered bitcoin (BTC) custody platform. Recent reports also indicate that the company is in partnership with Bank of New York (BNY) Mellon for the storage of cryptocurrency security keys.
....
Given the recent announcements and acquisitions, it appears Bakkt is trying to rectify these issues by pushing for self-certification as a cryptocurrency custodian.

Very nice,  just now sticking our nose through 7.5 k.  I'm ready for rockets!

OT but may be useful for those with large monitors.  I found a chrome extension that toggles the screen to dark mode on the forum and most everywhere else. https://mybrowseraddon.com/dark-mode.html.  Can't believe I've not found this sooner.

Choo Choo MF's,  slicing through 4,5,6 and now 7k like butter!
