My dog along with many others went missing on independence day in April last year, went to all the restaurants, never saw him again.  Angry  Still love the freedom this country affords expats although some things are seriously disturbing seen through a westerners lens.

Dang, when you have to look for your lost dog in local restaurants, that's a real bummer.
What if you find him?
Tet is coming up and they say one should be a little more alert than usual.

I did see I had been removed from the list but then saw the rules of the 25 earned merit so I didn't speak up. I'm not upset (unless I guessed the right price then I'll be a little salty haha) I guess I'll just have to earn more merits for the next time Smiley

i added another 3 merits so you are now at 275. so that may put you there, but im unsure what you started with (250?)

Thanks bud! And honestly, I don't know how many I needed haha

Also, looks like a bit of movement again, start of the next leg up perhaps?

Hey, welcome to WO.

Almost out of merits, so only one will have to do for now.

Thanks mate; I've been here since 2013 however, just posting sporadically. Plus I lost access to the account for a few years

I snagged your spot in the game. If for some reason that range actually hits, I have no problem splitting it with you.

Not sure if true, but I've heard of a story of a family going to a restaurant somewhere in Asia. They had their dog with them, and asked the waiter to keep an eye on him while they were there. After they finished eating and were ready to leave, they asked for their dog back, only to realise that they had actually just eaten it! The waiter thought they brought the dog for them to cook!

In the western world, humans tend to avoid eating carnivore animals. I can't think of a carnivore animal in any western cuisine. Pigs are omnivores, but are fed corn and soybean meals. Cats and dogs are carnivores, so they're out. I don't know if there is a scientific basis for this.

I just can't resist to brag all around about my Basorexia card:

What a day, first some nice pump on BTC and then this.
And later I'll even get one of my favourite dishes - Picata Milanese, I have no more wishes for today.

(Please save the breakout above $8k for tomorrow, today was good enough already for me.)  Grin

Westerns are shocked because it is cultural to have dogs, but really some pigs can be smarter than dogs (pigs are a very smart animal), yes most dog lovers will eat pigs.

I always thought the fact that we think it is ok to eat an animal as long as he is dumb, but not ok to eat a "smart" animal was very arbitrary and cruel.

You're right in that ultimately it is an arbitrary distinction. However, dogs are bred to be pets, whereas pigs and cows are bred to be meat. That's why there's hundreds of different variations of dogs and basically all pigs look the same. (Besides pot bellied pigs, remember them? They are cute.)

I hope in 20 or 30 years from now most people in Western civilized countries will no longer eat any meat. I am optimistic for that, mentalities are now slowly changing.

Yeah but bacon tastes good, pork chops taste good.

In addition, I think there's just too much proper protein in meat for it to be discarded completely. Can you imagine men who work manly jobs having to subsist on vegetarian diets? They can't. Lumberjacks, construction workers, carpenters, NFL & Rugby players, World's Strongest Man contenders... all eating beans and salad? I don't think so.

Office workers and Cricket players, on the other hand, sure why not.

Fish is meat too. It is probably not healthy to consume for long because of the heavey metals \m/ though. Eating red meat is not completely healthy too the doctors say so fuck it. I'll eat both.

I never liked the Asian stuff. If a person has no problems with eating dogs or other weird stuff, I can't easily eat whatever he cooks because I'll always have my doubts. (what if he did some weird shit to my meal)

Food poisoning sucks, Vietnamese seafood is to be avoided for the foreseeable future.  Angry
What a pity about your meal  Shocked Where did you eat it? I have lived in Vietnam in recent years, their cuisine is really interesting  Roll Eyes I even love their PHO - they write PHỞ in Vietnamese. It was really really delicious, have you eaten it? I have never had food poisoning since living there until now
Seeing chopped up dog corpses for sale on tables here is pretty freaky for a Westerner like me.  Like, dogs cut in half or decapitated.  There's a dog meat (thịt chó) restaurant not far from where I'm staying.  Haven't tried it.
Obviously I'm in the north.
Oh yeah, I tried the foetal-chick-in-an-egg once.
I think my favorite is bún chả.  The basket of aromatic greens on the side is fkn great.
As someone who has lived and worked in Vietnam for a long time, I am excited to read your comments about Vietnamese cuisine. Even though you guys are talking about bad food  Roll Eyes
As for dog meat, especially in the north, they regarded it as a specialty, it was truly disgusting  Lips sealed, but it became a cultural feature of the northern people. Many have condemned, but you cannot resist culture.
Many Vietnamese people love dogs, you know, but others consider it a dish. Here, they have dog thieves, who always catch other people's dogs for food, it becomes a business that the state cannot handle  Roll Eyes.
As for the balut, I tried it, it's not too bad even though you will feel nauseous if you see the chick there. Just eat and don't think about the chicken  Grin
How can you write "bún chả"  Shocked I was really surprised that a visitor like you could write it  Shocked

Condolences to you, I think it was stolen  Undecided

Currently, more than half a month will go to their biggest festival, Tet. Do you have any travel plans here? I can recommend some delicious food that you can try, of course it is hygienic

Unlike you, the longer I live here, the more I like this country  Cheesy

Observing some profit taking. No idea what the corn is going to do today, but illness-brutalized gut-bacteria tells me more sideways consolidation today.

Reminder to self: Eat some yogurt today.

HODL.

I'm currently getting over pneumonia so I know how you feel...bed rest
My brother in law is a Doctor and he told me about bone broth and it is great for a healthy gut! It makes for a great comfort food as well. Bake the bones first so it releases the marro and boil them for 12 hours in a crockpot.
No joke... real deal!
Feel better
Ps sorry bitpsycho lol didn't see your post

Got this in the mail this morning, guess there will be events to unfold in the next days and we will find out how much of the much bespoken safe haven BTC is really during crisis time.

https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/aa20-006a

(However this might be also an excuse to blame the Iranians for any piece of IT equipment falling over int the next days - that could come handy if office361 goes titsup once more)
