S&P 500 drops 7%, triggering NYSE ‘circuit breaker’ trading halt for 15 minutes

Quote
The S&P 500 dropped 7% shortly after the open, triggering a 15-minute “circuit breaker,” which temporarily halts trading at the New York Stock Exchange. The broad index also joined the  Dow Jones Industrial Average in bear market territory. The 30-stock Dow slid more than 1,600 points, or 7.%. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 7%.

On Wednesday, the Dow ended its historic 11-year bull market run by closing in bear-market territory. A bear market marks a 20% decline from all-time highs.

what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?

That was unexpected!

At previous drops I've often seen "the Chinese" get blamed. This is new, I would say this is a test for Bitcoin as "save haven".

this is a test of bitcoin period.

bitcoin will stand. It's more a test of holders. (not hodlers)

im sure it will survive too. and while i cant say im enjoying all this pain (watched the stock exchange trip the 7% circuit breaker a few minutes ago).. much carnage still on the way.

in just reloading my fiat reserves now for more corn myself as my last buys triggered and im out.

It's so good to observe the drop and don't even blink. Business as usual. This is fine.

True HoDLers need not worry at all. They are already doing well IRL because they're smart and capable individuals. They don't depend on Bitcoin for their everyday expenses -- they've got that covered. They understand the tech behind Bitcoin, they know its significance, and they are certain of what's coming. For them, it's a delayed winning bet that they placed years ago. Payout is delayed, but is almost certain. And it probably won't even be in fiat, when the time comes. 1 BTC = 1 BTC.

HoDL.

Leads me to ponder whatever happened to folk who were posting back then.  I sometimes wonder what the ratios are for:

Still Around : Bored of WO and signed off : Got Wrecked and signed off : Made Enough to Retire and Disappeared : Suffered Psychosis and Disappeared : Died

I would love to know those stats too. Many accounts seem to have gotten hacked which could've accounted for them. Plenty lost the plot. I think the smallest number will be those who sold a fortune and then signed out one final time with a salute and a toast.

As for the current price action, bleurgh. It is what it is and I would've been astounded had it been any other way.

it only seems at first glance that Russia is cutting the branch on which it sits, in fact, it understands that oil has no value, America simply buys oil without the need to rule everyone, and just prints usd for it. There has long been a technology on the water, this plant was quickly closed https://youtu.be/G3yGjve4mlU

It is a reason

There goes all hope for ATH this year.

So a fast drop is possible, a fast pump isn't?? Weird to look at it.

Possible, sure. Probable? No. Especially with the corona scare. I think we are looking at another year of sideways.

edit: Don't listen to me. Really, I am just pissed at the fact I have no fiat to buy coin.

Ha!

I bet Peter Schiff woke up, checked the BTC price, took a victory lap, and started writing another article about how Bitcoin isn't a "safe haven" like Gold...

...and then checked the metals price.  Shocked  Grin

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_6102

"Executive Order 6102 is a United States presidential executive order signed on April 5, 1933, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt "forbidding the hoarding of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates within the continental United States"."

Bernie could do this with Bitcoin. Do I think he would, idk, but Im sure Trump or Biden wouldn't. True it wouldnt censor Bitcoin, but an executive order banning Bitcoin ownership would put me out of the hodl game.

Its the extreme leftists Bernie would appoint to power that I would worry about most. A Bernie Fed ran by a communist bartender chick could easily ban Bitcoin.

These seem to be baseless, McCarthy era-level fears. I hope you don't actually believe this and are just using hyperbole to state your beliefs. Regardless, you're right in that its almost a moot point. America can now prepare itself for 4 more years of mediocrity and flow of wealth from the middle class to the rich.

Yeah, after the latest primaries it is a moot point. Its not that I was convinced it was likely for Bernie to do that. I just wanted to illustrate that any President could do that.

While I feel it would be unlikely for Bernie, Biden, or Trump to ban Bitcoin, I believe administrations and appointees of Trump and Biden would be less likely than administrations and appointees of Bernie to be hostile to it.

So thats why I considered it Bullish for Bitcoin that Biden did so well.

Just talked to my old man, they went out and stocked up on food a few days ago. Today, everything is gone. Just a huge mob of people everywhere trying to grab whatever is still left. So glad they listened to me before it was too late. Thanks to everyone helping with keeping people informed.

I got the last pack of the wagyu steak burgers yesterday, it was horrendous

I just bought the dip, Just a little bit, I think that a year or two from now, we'll be looking back at this as a discount. I'm an optimist, next time we're getting to 20k, we're smashing through it like wet toilet paper.

edit: Bought at 7,664

I still stand by my position. I'll try to buy more on my next paycheck if these prices hold or improve. Why are people whining about getting a discount?

Because most people are emotional bitches and lousy traders.

Btw, the gleaming bright side to all of this crap:

Once this bear market is over (in all markets) and has bottomed, we won't see this type of thing again for a VERY long time.

Mark my words, we'll have another ten year epic bull run that will defy all gravity, logic, and common sense.

The Fed will make sure of it.
