Stores are being stripped here good today.. They are madhouses..

My freezers and cupboards are packed..

Did you manage to get any toilet rolls? They are like gold dust down our way.

Yeah I have plenty.. Prolly 100-150 rolls..
That's really just a luxury though.. I'll spray my ass down with my shower head if I need to..

Back in 2008, during the beginning of the financial crisis, gold "initially" didn't perform well either.

The current atmosphere is ideal for bitcoin. I still firmly believe that we'll see a strict trend reversal very soon.

I got some   smoking   deals on Au during that episode

The US is the place to worry about most.

I thought the issue was with Europe now? Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I believed what Trump says which is foolish.

Interesting times indeed.

Centuries to come and the history books will tell about the 2020 Worldwide Toilet Paper Crisis. No mention of the virus though.

https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/snakebite-envenoming

"Though the exact number of snake bites is unknown, an estimated 5.4 million people are bitten each year with up to 2.7 million envenomings. Around 81 000 to 138 000 people die each year because of snake bites, and around three times as many amputations and other permanent disabilities are caused by snakebites annually.'

Shut the world down, somebody saw a snake in the grass.  Roll Eyes

No need to fall for this silly alarmism.

Yes, there is a certain degree of alarmist over-reaction concerning covid19 but considering I'm in my 70s and have COPD, I think maybe I'll pass on flying up to Toronto next week and extend my stay in the Maya Jungle for a few more weeks (or months) until this thing blows over. I'll take my chances with the snakes.
____

Toronto was on the shit list some 17 years ago because of a similar virus called SARS and it was freaky. People (especially Chinese) wearing face masks on the streets, hospitals closed to the general public, tourism ground almost to a halt... they had to throw a big rock concert featuring the Rolling Stones (but ACDC stole the show) just to try to tell people it was safe to come to Toronto. Drew half a million people.

Eventually it blew over and it was life as usual again. I've still got a souvenir t-shirt. It reads:

"I survived SARS, West Nile Virus, Great Power Blackout, SARS again."

We also had a widespread 3-day power outage that summer triggered by some idiots in the USA and exacerbated by too many air conditioners in a brutal heat wave. While other people were buying up all the flashlight batteries, I bought all the candles and icecubes in the corner store. I filled my chest freezer to the brim with ice, and filled a Coleman cooler with the contents of my frig and as much ice as would fit and another cooler with beer and the rest of the ice. Made it up to my country place where I had enough generator gas to wait the thing out with lots of cold beer.

Lesson: Don't panic. It will eventually be a memory and source of nostalgia. Maybe we'll get t-shirts. For now though I'll stay in my little piece of paradise in the (covid19-free) jungle and avoid airports. On that note I think I'll have an ice-cold Tecate. No cerveza turista for me.

P.S. No shortage of TP here.

They say newspaper sales are in a steep decline. I bet sales shoot up if this toilet paper crisis continues. If it gets worse people will be wiping their arses on history books after the newspapers run out.

I'm Italian and really grateful with China for their help but saying they donated all the equipment is actually false, it's part of an agreement launched by a large investement from an Italian bank group "Intesa San Paolo".

Ture story.

I am not even that grateful to China, because the virus actually spread because their poor hygienic conditions in their food markets over there.
And apparently that material was already due to italy, but wasn't delivered for the virus outbreak over there , so they retained it the leaving orders.

You know what 's worse than selling the bottom?

I was so addicted to this thing. Bitcoin is (or was xd) my second life. Now most of them are gone, I feel empty. Without purpose. Dull. That's worse than losing money. I was (maybe still am) so obsessed with bitcoin I became bitcoin.  Grin (That's probably not healthy)

youre turning into a undead coin zombie.

What's it like under lockdown? Are there shortages of things in the shops when you go out to buy food?

First define lockdown.
You are not allowed to exit apart for going to work and groceries (supermarkets are open).
You have to carry a piece of paper to exibit to the police in case they stop you (typical italian: more laws, more piece of paper, no substantial controls).
Shops, restaurants, museums, basically everything but supermarkets is closed.

You stay at home.
Many can work from home, many firm closed and layed staff on vacation, of course many already lost the job or are close to.
How to spend day at home is basically your choice, but I know perople with kids who are losing their minds.

Main practical problem is going to the shops.
Of course we shop online, but the infrastructure is of course not ready to absorb such a demand: every major store provide online shopping and front door delivery, but where I live the available windows (two weeks) are already fully booked. For every different shop (I tried, everyone has).
Bear in mind that if an infected person is found on a logistical center, they have to shut it down, sanitise it and then reopen. Only to close it a few hour later when another one is tested positive. A logistical nightmare.
So you go shopping to the brick and mortar shop: it's a mess because you cannot simply go in: as a security measure only one few person can enter, so access is reduced, hence big queues. Also while queuing you must stay  distant. Result are very long queues outside food supermarkets (in a sense , now I understand those who raided shelves a few weeks back).
This is easy, I do feel not confrotable queuing with other people, but I can do and it's a minor hassle.
Who is quarantined (cannot go outside the house because exposed to the virus), well that's a totally different situation. I don't know how they can survive if there is not anyoen providing them food from the shop as also this is forbid to them .

In the italian board there is a guy whose mother is in the hospital, so he's quarantined and he's describing the whole situation, he's keeping a little diary.
You can read if you want, no scary or gruesome details.
