The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

I'm selling almost every day (DCA) to pay for our lake.

We started with regular cars, then lambos, now ranches and lakes...soon whole building blocks and/or villages, then islands, maybe asteroids, planets, stars, etc
  Grin

For me, Bitcoin has "bought" me the most important thing in the universe: time, and the peace of mind that I can survive and do anything I ever wanted to do, without having to work for it. My life is already full, no need for Lambos or lakes. I own two wonderful houses, one in the city, another in the countryside, right next to a beautiful beach. My car is 6 years old and in pristine condition. Frankly, sometimes I'm trying to think of what to buy, but I'm out of ideas...

tl;dr: The most important thing that Bitcoin can buy, is TIME! The time one needs to do the things that really matter (and these are almost never material, although most people have been conditioned/brainwashed to think they are).

Thank you, Bitcoin!

coming from a very poor family and I never had any meaningful amount of money way into my 30ies. then bitcoin happened. and one day i was - of all places -strolling through the aisles of a giant home depot store when it dawned on me that prices of things lost their meaning and that i could fill up my cart with what ever i wanted - but -unlike a kids dream in a toys`r us store- the magic was gone. i bought nothing.

I know a guy who won 2 million € on the lottery and in 2 years' time he was up to the neck in debt.

Energy is pretty cheap in space. You also don't need a whole lot of power as even quite low thrusts will eventually get you where you want to go.

It's not as simple as going from point A to point B.

'Points of interest' in space (like asteroids) are not stationery, but flying as incredible speed.

For example, when NASA sent a spacecraft to Pluto, it took 9 years to get there, but they only had 1 day to actually study Pluto.

Only 1 day because the spacecraft couldn't just 'stop' once it arrived.

Relative speed during Pluto flyby was 13.78 km/s (49,600 km/h; 30,800 mph) so it would requite extraordinary amount of energy to 'stop'.

No, you're right, it's not point A to point B. Most things of interest are orbiting the sun so it is a case of matching orbit. This means speeding up or slowing down at strategic points. Typically, one would accelerate for approximately half the journey then decelerate for the other half. Depending on many factors, you might have a long time to do this. Even with quite modest (sub 1G) accelerations, it it possible to travel long distances in quite short times (particularly if one is not having to worry about human cargo). This can be achieved with a photon drive which means you can obtain power from the sun or, for some parts of the journey, a solar sail arrangement (which we are not at yet but given time)...

The Pluto flyby being so fast was because it was designed as a flyby, because that better suited the mission parameters rather than a matched orbit. Apples and oranges really. Also bear in mind that the sun is quite weak out in the vicinity of pluto (30-49 AU) vs the asteroid belt (~2.5AU) - inverse-square law. So plenty of energy available for maneuvering.

Energy is everything. As already noted, with free energy we would be able to create elements instead of mining it.
For space mining we would need to reach orbit with an heavy payload, go to the the asteroid, land, use a lot of energy to probe and mine materials, escape the gravity of the asteroid and come back to earth. I cannot extrapolate any good number but the cost of orbit seems to exponentially grow for biggest ships, and this is a huge ship. Maybe you can do it cheaper with nuclear explosions project-orion-style, but meh.
I suppose that at the current energy costs this is not convenient even if you do not consider the billions in hardware and research.

Wow, the amount of Bitcoin held on exchanges CONTINUES to drop, as people move their purchased bitcoin into cold storage to HODL.

Bullish.

Great work

You don't mine the asteroid in-situ, you fly it back to earth (or lunar) orbit and mine it close to home (scifi type stories are typically based on options that are not available to us in reality). You basically only fly a (or multiple) engines out there. FWIW, asteroid gravity is pretty nominal (why they are asteroids and not a planet) but that's not really relevant to the scenario I'm describing anyway.

Here's an article that seems relevant. I don't have time to give it a deep read right now though.

Money printer is going Brrrr and they're out there cheer leading, trying to convince everyone how somehow that should not cause inflation. Frankly they'd be shooting themselves in the foot (even more so) if they allowed ETF right now. Can you imagine the front page headlines Brrrr printer printed gazillion dollars, on separate and totally unrelated news, BTC ETF is the best performing ETF and saw a gazillion dollar inflow in the same time period  Roll Eyes 2+2=??

Thank you, Bitcoin!

I screenshotted this and sent it to my wife, because that's exactly  my thinking and my dream.

I have a good job, I've made some career and my spending capacity increased, but all that I am able to do with it is to buy things I don't need to relieve the stress of increased responsibilities at work. I cannot buy time, only sell my time for money. And I cannot even choose how much time or when, because responsibilities and such.

I am not becoming rich with my salary and i will not be able to retire early, that's just a decent salary for a middle class life. Projections says I will be able to retire at the age of 70.

Bitcoin is my last hope to live a full time life.

Me Toooooo!!! Cheesy Cheesy

But I did figure out after like a few days that no one here knew jack sh!t about where the price is going and most of them were delusional f^cks that had wishful thinking depending on their political agendas. If they sold they wanted a dip. If they bought a dip, then they wanted the price to rise. It was just that simple. But I have no worries or care, very less if I have to buy back in at 50K or at more then that at a loss. Smiley ... For now the resistance is not breaking and we still need to go down if we want $100K+ soon. Smiley  Grin

Well this didn't age well ...
It's buying back higher than I guess?

I didn't bought back! I actually sold more! Tongue

Yesterday sold some at 51K ... and today sold some more at 52K.  Dunno how people can't see it that this is some overextended sh!t and we need at least 2 weeks of dumping to recover from this nonsense. Tongue Cheesy  Roll Eyes

I guess its "Fugazi" !!! Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

*edit(-0):  This month I'm spending left and right. I dunno what I will buy yet. Cheesy Cheesy ... But yeah... full month of shopping. I'l be busy AF!  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

*edit(2): "And now I'm gonna spend your money! Nice doing business with you gents!" Tongue ... Welcome to financial communism. Cheesy Cheesy

Now, space elevators are another topic. We don't have the materials right now but fun stuff like if one collapsed, it would wrap around the world a couple of times (IIRC).

This happens to me all the time. The so called "Window Shopping".

Not because the prices of things lost their meaning, but any number higher than zero is a positive number for me, and I can't bring myself to buy something no matter how cheap. (Depends on the product.)

I end up going to a dollar store, and while the items are indeed cheaper, I start calculating in my head that the price per item divided by the number of items, that it costs more, so I go back to the big hardware store.

Then I buy a $5 wrench. You know. For backup purposes.

Interestingly All the propositions I've seen are all tethered to a land base, I see no reason to not have it hanging with a landing pad as that would alleviate most of the issues they have been trying to work out.
