Space elevator: the noob Newtonian dabbler in me has a question.

Won't a sufficiently high/massive elevator slow down this mudball's rotation? As in, longer days? Conservation of angular momentum and all that. Please make me feel safe again. Thanks.

If it was that heavy, what do you propose to anchor it to?  A large tent peg?

No because the space elevator is rotating the earth at the same speed as the earth. Also the material came from earth so it's still conservation of energy and mass.

It's mass doesn't matter because it's hanging from space.
You don't need to tether it because it's hanging down from space so you just need some concrete block at the bottom that weighs more than the counter weight in space.

Until you learn gravity always win in the long run.

I wish I'd left my miner running a bit longer. Though it was definitely not worth the electricity, it would have paid off. But then again, so would buying Bitcoin with the dollars.

People always said that buying is better than mining (and they have been right almost all of the time), but where's the fun in just buying?

I have always mined for fun and education and it served me well in both areas.
I have also almost always mined at loss (only counting the leccy, not even trying to ROI the miners), but today I am quasi-retired thanks to my MAHUSP (Mining And Holding Until da Shit Pumps). Though since I pay the leccy much later than I use it, it was basically buying on credit and once I had to pay the leccy I was already in profit most of the time.

In contrast all my business ventures were non-profit. It wasn't planned that way, it just happened because I am very bad at serious business (read: selling people overpriced shit they didn't need in the first place <- my definition of todays growth-centric economy).

I even plan to buy a few of jstefanops SHA256 pod miners and play the solo lottery with them. I really like how he brings mining back to the unwashed masses.

These are the main aspects that just don't add up for me.
Or is there a very basic error i'm making in my assumptions?

The main thing you're missing is orbital mechanics. The ISS experiences earth's gravity quite strongly and so do its occupants yet they are in freefall. Relative to their local surroundings they appear to have no "weight" but they definitely do by physical definitions (and I don't mean mass which exists in all frames, of course).

The weight of the counterweight will be less but that's fully accounted for and not a major factor.
