Dear,

I use air filter for my Miner R4. My temperature is 80F, really hot. Will installing the air filters like the picture damage ant miners?
The picture link is below.

Thank you very much,

The R4's fans are both unreliable and barely move enough air as they come, I wouldn't be too inclined to sacrifice anymore airflow on those.  Depending on your environment, it might make more sense to routinely blow them off with compressed air instead to keep them clean.  If you are adamant about using air filters, make sure you use as much filter area as possible so not to restrict the airflow too much.

Yeah I have two of these. The second one came with a nasty sounding fan.

It creaks and is wrong sound compared to my first one.  Right off the bat soon as it fired up.

Plus they won't ship a replacement to me.  So I am running it with the noise.

Down the road I will need to jury rig a fan setup.

Yeah I bet these will suffocate in their current set up.

Thanks kingcolex and Finksy, after monitor it in 8 hours, the rate of fan and temperature is too high.
I decide to buy air purify and give more distance between them. I need to know well from the beginning before invest more on miner. Playing miner is less risk than playing bitcoin finance Smiley

I would highly suggest getting a few Vornado Fans (best/most efficient fan on the market) and point one or two at a string of R4's (or even S9's, feeding the intake, back when I was running S9's).

The $100 model will more than suffice, and takes 50W at max capacity, which is damn powerful and silent. I have a line of R4's on 3 circuits and it did wonders... brought the ambient temp from 78 to 71.

Sorry to clarify, point these fans at a row of miners cools the chips down significantly and thus the internal fan speed should automatically go down as well.

Wow, your information is so useful. Everytimes I tried to put fan on my miners, the temperature is higher and miner' fans run higher speed.
So, the miners intake air and fan create a flat 90 degree?

Personally, they are in a vertical line; I point @180 degrees*, not 90 (not feeding the "fan" intake). I have a line of 8.7Th/s (three of them) lined up against my wall (don't block the vent outtake) and got the most powerful Vornado and its solved the issue amazingly well. Basically drives the heat into a corner of the room and rises up, dissipates, and there's really no issue.

Oh, and I run them under my bed. Lol.

*Fan points towards the line, e.g. [Vornado 660 (amazon), or the Bed bath beyond version is larger for the same price but you can only get it there] -> [R4 -> R4 ->R4], if that makes sense. They're all in a line; no 90-degree angles. You could even try [Vornado] -> R4 -> R4 -> R4 <- [Vornado] though this might not work as well tbh...

I got it. The R4 is more quiet and less hear than S9. But S9 I personally think easier for running the heat and air dust filter too.

Depends where you plan to run. A R4 is basically the same tech as the S9, but with 2 boards instead of 3 and a much cooler, quieter fan.

It's 2/3 of an S9 at ~2/3 of the price. Literally.

If you're finding R4's overheating, I wouldn't go with S9's - I did have a crazy S9 setup with aerospace heat/sound proof material, vornado fans for intake, and R6 insulated vents going out the window - it was pretty epic under my dorm bed. Wish I had taken a picture before going with R4's.

I just read your 1st post - do NOT block the vents on the rear of the machine - it will overheat and kill it. As for filters, I installed generic mesh just so random lint and stuff wouldn't get into the machine.

I am planning to build a box and put some S9, portable aircondition and outtake fan. Is it possible for heat of S9 and amount of money? I saw on youtube, some guys put S9 continuosly, so they save alot of space.
And with the box, I can reduce dust and dehuminity.

I did that under my bed dorm (3 in a row) - it was a pretty cool setup...

What makes you change from S9 to R4? S9 would take less space than R4.

I'd rather have a lower hash rate than the crazy loud configuration I had before (36Th/s) - but in fact, I have a much higher hash rate (120Th/s net) because with R4's I can pay other people to "host" for me (free electricity); doubt anybody else would allow S9's with vents etc in their rooms.
