I've searched on here but the forum's search isn't very good...
Anyways, I understand letting people use Alts, one for their business and one for personal, or to register a new name to bring up a controversial topic. That I get. What I don't understand is why people are allowed to buy and sell usernames on this forum? It makes trusting someone very screwy to work with when an account changes hands and the person you trust no longer controls his account!
So I was wondering if a mod or someone could provide some rationale for this? What are the benefits of letting people trade accounts?

With TOR, it is impossible to restrict duplicate accounts, so why try "half ass"?

Still doesn't answer the question. I know why we allow alt accounts. But why do we allow selling and buying of them?

I wondered this as well. Surely by allowing account trading we are making forum members more vulnerable to scammers.
What is stopping me from creating a scamming website, buying a reputable forum account and endorsing my scam on the forums? I know that the account would need to be purchased quietly, but still.
I'm also trying to work out why else someone would buy an account unless it was to quickly (and illegitimately) gain trust. Why not just create your own?

Exactly. I understand the position of people who want to have multiple accounts. Yes, they can be used for scamming, but there are some legitimate uses for having more than one account. I can't think of any legit uses for buying someone else's account other than for purposes of deceit

If you want to trust somebody it would be better to use things like gpg signed contracts and the OTC-WOT than just relying on a forum account being who you think they are.

I buy GPG keys too, we will essentially buy your whole online identity. There are uses of buying accounts other than scamming, in fact, highly reputable accounts are rarely sold for scamming, people are willing to pay premium for them so that they can use them to run their legitimate businesses/websites, it makes more sense to do that then to scam for a few bitcents. I also refuse to do business with scammers although other traders don't care. Why does the forum allow the account selling threads? Well because account trading happens in private all the time too, there is nothing anyone can do to stop that. I was the first person to start selling accounts on this forum publicly, my actual intentions were to highlight the fact that this can happen and does happen and move people away from trusting post counts and reputation and to use 2 of 3 escrows etc and it's worked. Accounts can be hacked or purchased and people need to realize that rep means nothing, trust no one.

Still doesn't answer the question. I know why we allow alt accounts. But why do we allow selling and buying of them? the admin/s of the board allow it. there is no "we".

Well, to be honest here it's impossible to restrict the buying/selling here, and rather to instill a fake sense of security it's much better to let everyone know beforehand on the deal here.

If you don't allow people to publicly post about the buying/selling of accounts, it would certainly make it significantly harder for them to trade these accounts. The majority of these accounts are probably used for scam attempts, don't see any other reason why people would be willing to pay so much for them.
In my opinion you should attempt to lock account trading threads as you see them rather than posting on them and saying that it is allowed. If you think about it, the fact that account trading is allowed greatly incentivizes the phishing of accounts on here.
