What makes the account valuable is the rank (which is related to the gold coins) , when you rank increase , one coin gets added (and sometimes coin get half colored) .

Most people here are really dependent on getting Legendary status... It also seems like something to show off.

oh nevermind, I'm a jr now just in a blink. so the rank is updated a lil later than activity, no big deal

So if I signed up October 09, 2015 why am I only showing an activity of 24 and being listed as a newbie?  There are people who only joined last month with a higher ranking.  Shouldn't I be a Member by now, what am I missing or is it an error?

You need minimum 30 activity/posts to become jr member.
You can't get more activity than posts.

It's really not that hard to understand .
You only get activity if you have posts , and you get max 14 activity per two weeks .(So if you don't have any posts you won't receive any activity and if you have posts , you will get max 14 activity per two weeks) . Now for what comes to how much it will take your to rank up etc .. then this should help you :
