Nope, I actually love bitcoin to what it is now. Tho I must say that it still needs more improvements( I bet we all want that anyways). However rebranding it for me is probably a worse Idea.  We must not rebuild something that is not yet stable i guess?
There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

i would avoid any possible detrimental change like this, people will naturally adopt, eventually to the usage of submultiples prefix, because it will be harder and harder to afford a whole btc

not to mention that there is already an eays way in the wallet to show mbtc without changing anything, just use that...

Do you think Bitcoin needs some Rebranding?

Rebranding is the creation of a new look and feel for an established product or company. The usual goal of rebranding is to influence a customer's perception about a product or service or the company overall by revitalizing the brand and making it seem more modern and relevant to the customer's needs.

First off, the name is a bit confusing? - Most people see the name and associate it with some physical coin. The media is also not helping with this

perception, because with every article about Bitcoin, pictures are shown of physical Casascius bitcoins.

The other aspect of Bitcoin that can be rebranded is it's bad reputation that has been built up and shilled up ..over years.

Every company gets to a point where they need to re-think their original goals and future plans... Why not Bitcoin? We have come a long way

since 2009 and making small changes will help us to take this into a new future, without the baggage of the past.  Wink

What would the pro's and cons of this be, and also the impact?

Let's discuss.  Grin

No. Bitcoin network effect is too big, the brand is strong enough to keep growing. Bitcoin sounds cool, it's short and sharp, the logo is also good.

Internet had bad reputation at the begining too, it means nothing. All cutting edge technology that poses problems to the status quo will get bad reputation no matter what you do about it.

What if the outcome or the result of rebranding is better and more beautiful?I mean bitcoin is already known and popular.Rebranding of bitcoin is just to level up the processes etc. I am just curious what's the consequence when that happens.Maybe if one day it happens, the impact of it is difficult to adjust to the new system but also gradually learn.New name, new beggining. There's  nothing wrong if we try.

It’s a very big No for me, we shouldn’t ReBrand Bitcoin because it’s still developing of its currency status until now and it remained unstable of its economic price value. The best option to do is to keep advertising bitcoin to public, so that they maybe adopting it for good purpose and yet gather good results to digital crypto currency growth of it’s demand.

Yes i feel so.Bitcoin would not be rebranded anytime from now.Bitcoins already made a big noise online being acryptocurrency and the name bitcoin will be remained in the history of money and the world.Bitcoin network already did a huge impact financially to people using it and why would we rebrand it if people love so what is it now

Lets say an altcoin pops up with the name millcoin and starts selling millis or what the new term is and confuses people and gets them buying shitcoins.

And what if an altcoin pops up with the name bitscoins and confuses people and gets them buying shitcoins.

Caveat Emptor.

Scammers will scam. Gullible people will be fooled.  There isn't much that can be done about that. Re-branding doesn't change that.

could have done the rebranding is a wrong thing. bitcoin today has become very good. I fully support the current bitcoin, bitcoin is already as currency and also the tools to make an investment.

IMHO rather than rebrand we should be expending effort in educating the mass on the benefits of bitcoin. The brand is strong enough and we can say a lot of good things about bitcoin... cheaper money transfer, faster transaction when sending abroad compared to remittance services, public ledger, etc. Once we can get the public to at least recognize it as a legal money transfer, the rest would follow. All the current negative stereotypes of bitcoin and it's users would disappear as people become familiar with it.

Bitcoin have lots of history, especially as the first cryptocurrency and some people have heard about bitcoin. If we rebrand bitcoin, it's not much different from using altcoin and we have to start promoting again from zero.
We better try harder promoting bitcoin to other people even though it's not easy rather than change the identity of Bitcoin.

its not about renaming bitcoin.. its about branding.

EG Apple is still apple. but they went from just a computer/music device to the phone device and now smart watches.
you can gt them in gold, silver and pink.

this does not mean Apple is now "Banana".

as for bitcoin

EG instead of lengthy public keys. promotional material should concentrate on QR codes. or even NFC methods of making payments
EG instead of btc, measures in 'bits' should be common
EG instead of 'wallet' the term 'keyring' could be used to describe where the privkeys are stored.

analogy:
gold is still gold, but..
instead of gold bar promotional material concentrates on circuitry, ingots, jewellery
instead of tonnes measures of ounces and grams
instead of goldsmiths the term reserves, vaults could be used to describe where gold is stored

its about the understanding and utility of bitcoin that needs to be tweaked not about 'using altcoin'

Rebranding bitcoin is not necessary. The way it is right now is just perfect, and you don't need to change something just for the other people to like it, because the only ones that will like it is the one who understand it, the one who understand bitcoin, and not just those people who are just interested on the first place and after a while, or maybe after you have explained it to them, and they have found that doing bitcoin is too hard, then, they will just ignore what you have said, all of it, it will just turned into a nonsense to them, which is really annoying.

Bitcoin, is not confusing, in fact, it is a unique one, or I could say, Exquisite. The only problem is that, every time that they hear bitcoin, the first thing that always pop up on their heads are, it is illegal, it is fraud, and all other negativities that they are throwing to bitcoin, which is not true. This kind of people is the one that should be "Rebranded" and not the bitcoin itself.

Well, rebranding bitcoin is like starting the whole thing all over again which took us almost 8 years for bitcoin to be like right now. Although bitcoin's first impressions for some people are not good, it still has certain positive reputations. So from my point of view, I assume that rebranding bitcoin is just gonna confuse newcomers, and the name to me is not such a big deal, so no need for renaming.

Rebrand it into what exactly and what for? Mostly only the hodlers who cant wait for this to make another rocket ship rise would want a rebrand. To be frank, thats what I hate about the idea. Maybe its how we should think about BTC thats to be changed.

Before any image concerns for BTC, first miners and developers should agree how to fix the scalability matter.

Bitcoin is just starting to have positive reviews and press releases. It is starting to look good to ordinary people. Rebranding it will just wipe all the previous efforts to put bitcoin where it is right now. Even just having a new name will bring confusion and maybe do more harm than good.

Rebranding might not help in that case

I guess these folks should rather get reflashed, just calling them another name obviously won't suffice. On the other hand, though, I don't think that so many people are actually thinking along this path. They might in fact have heard bad things Bitcoin but that doesn't necessarily mean that they unreservedly agree with view. After all, Bitcoin has been around for 8 years already, and its price is quoted on major sites related to investments. I assume no one in his sober mind would be quoting the price of, say, heroin

if you dont want a rebrand. then why say hodler or BTC..  you should use holder and Bitcoin.

i hope you see that we dont need to change "bitcoin" the network consensus protocol name. but we do need to think about the terminology of the common concept of the words within bitcoin. to make bitcoin more easy to explain and roll off the tongue in common conversation

Re-branding bitcoin will result in an Alt coin. Bitcoin will remain bitcoin.

By the way, who are the we in Should we ReBrand Bitcoin?

I fully agree with you with this and you have got all my support. It seems like OP doesn't have anything to post or can't find a topic to quote or to post a reply. Rebranding is just for those things that is not really likeable or not important at all because it doesn't make any sense at all. The one that should be Rebranded is this post and those people out there who are always giving negative feedbacks about bitcoin.

I think you should rephrase this post of yours from "Should we Rebrand bitcoin" to "Bitcoin shouldn't be rebrand", for you to get a more better opinion about this, because it is a little bit confusing to read this "should we rebrand bitcoin", you know, it is kinda bad to hear.

I think no, but if the decision is to rebrand, it would have to be now. Making a rebrand now would confuse less people, then if we waited until mainstream adoption. With that being said, I think we are so close to the tipping point of mainstream adoption, so don't really think Bitcoin should be rebranded.

I agree in one of the reply. It might make it as an altcoin.
We are still few in numbers and others might get confused for now.
Only those who are really popular can adapt with changing their names or logos.
If there will be a chnage it is not yet now or the next year. We need more people supporting it.
One question. Who will rebrand it? The bitcointalk community? The largest amount of bitcoin holder? No one can.

Once again : I'm definitely agree with this one (too), "who are we?" Only the creator Mr. Satoshi could say for ReBrand but I don't think it is really necessary for now instead of discuss and solve main problem of bitcoin transaction. The name "bitcoin" is a special gift from the founder, perception of new users about physical bitcoin and logo are not wrong and consider as a great thing.
Bad reputation of bitcoin is not so worrying because others currencies were used for illegal activities too. However, it's depends on people who use it.
