The only person I follow that predicted correcty BTC price in the past is Vinny Lingham. Hands up.
He said that BTC will reach up to 2-3K at the end of 2017 and it will surpass Gold's price for sure.
Here's a quote from his latest article everyone should read.

Quote
We should be aiming for 2–3x gains every year for the next couple of years, and then those returns should be steadily declining over time, but always going up and to the right — the power of compound growth will ensure that we still get 20x returns, but over a longer period of time and in more sustainable fashion. The more stable that Bitcoin becomes, the more it will be a store of value, and eventually it will become a currency — which will usher in a new era for Bitcoin. This could take 5–10 years to play out, but ceteris paribus, it should happen.

I do expect a 2 -3x price growth overall in 2017 for the USD/BTC pair. This may result in Bitcoin prices in other currencies being up 4 -7x, but I think it’s fair to say that USD/BTC pairing is what we should use as the benchmark.

Quote
What NOT to expect in 2017 for Bitcoin: Parabolic growth (not 20x) (i.e. Bitcoin $10k is probably not going to happen in 2017) A hard fork. We all saw what happened with Ethereum so I would give this a 5% chance of happening.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

I agree with the price prediction of bitcoin surpassing gold in 2017. There are 0 reasons that gold should ve more valuable than bitcoin. Gold is obviously manipulated as hell, it is cumbersome to carry, it is a mess to try to transact around the globe... the only thing it got over bitcoin is network effect and we will slowly get there.

100-200% annual profit IS BIG.
Imagine having 10,000$ and in a year... that means 30,000$... so 20,000$ profit.
Now divide 30,000$ in 12 months... it is 2500$/month. NOT bad at all Tongue
So, in 5 years from 10,000$ you will end up with... 110,000$... (1000% up)

Show me ANY other type of investments with a good chance of 100% annual return. Seriously. It is pretty commonly understood that a measly 10% return is pretty above average over the course of a year, in traditional investments.

i wish, like you, i could live in a world where 2-3x profit annually on my investment could have been considered "low"!

There is a FOMO brewing...

The more stable that Bitcoin becomes, the more it will be a store of value, and eventually it will become a currency — which will usher in a new era for Bitcoin.

That's the most interesting quote and something not enough people have picked up on elsewhere. True usage as a currency comes last and that's the really unpredictable bit.

For a small amount of people at present it's a currency, for the overwhelming majority who do spend it regularly, and it's probably not very many, it's just a fine way of sending fiat.

Man, crypto has spoilt you. Try moaning about that type of return in the real world and you'll wind up having a new arsehole torn for you.

yeah but not in crypto, in crypto 100% is very average, many altcoin have done much better than that within a very short time, still think that Vinny is overestimating here because he is excited, but it can be yes maybe as a new ath? who know, one thign is sure bitcoin is bound to increase, that's what i learned

I'm willing to bet 1 Doge that that isn't the case. If you're balls deep in alts then insane returns and equally insane losses are par for the course. And most people here will never have been involved in any 'real' markets.
