So i just sent $1000 worth of btc to electrum wallet. When I tried to send, it said i needed password. and that was just a test wallet. so now i have lost $1000 because there is no such thing as bitcoin support. great.... so how are people insured if someone types the wrong address, adds a zero, or forget their private key. Why did satoshi not think of this?

Are you sure that you sent your Bitcoins to a test wallet and transaction is valid?
You must always check and recheck when sending your BTC. People are insured by their carefulness. It is a point that you're responsible for everything: typing addresses, securing your private key and storing your BTC only in safe place.

if you want a company to "manage" your funds.
use something like coinbase.

blaming satoshi for human error is like blaming a gold miner for why your aunt forgot where she put her necklace

so how are people insured if someone types the wrong address, adds a zero, or forget their private key. Why did satoshi not think of this?

From what I know, if the address doesn't exist, you cannot send the money.
Now, if the address does exist, how would Satoshi know what was in your mind? If you want to send, you send. If you want to send 10 or 100, you are allowed to send. Should Satoshi judge how much money you have and what you do with them? Really?

About forgetting private key.. what could he do? What if somebody else just claims that he forgot your key, would you like Satoshi to give it to him?

You have to understand it's money and handle with care. I understand that you are upset, but you have to see it was your and only your fault and learn from that (quite expensive lesson, I feel for you..)

you try to make brute force on wallet for password recovery and other thing you ask why satoshi not think about this type of mistakes its answer simple answer is because of alot of charge back and fake disputes of in other currencies like paypal so in these terms btc is full secure method of payment for seller because buyer cannot charge back after receiving item Smiley

Why do people always want someone to look after them, take responsibility for yourself.  in future send a small amount 1st to new addresses before you send the full amount.

Did you know that you sending to a test wallet? do you have access to the wallet that generated the test address? you don't need to type the add yourself just copy paste and double check every time. good thing about decentralized systems is the lack of control over anything(no support), what did you want to test with $1000? accept that you made a mistake and also post the txid for us to see what is going on.

Absolute nonsense.

Tried to send it from where?  Did you forget your password?  Did you create a backup of your wallet?  What test wallet?  There is bitcoin support.  There are many people that are knowledgeable about bitcoin and are happy to help.  How are you insured if you throw ten $100 bills into a fire?

If you are using a reasonably good wallet, then it won't let you send to an invalid address.  You don't need to remember your private key if you use wallet software that securely stores it for you.

Satoshi did think of this.  Why didn't you?

The transaction link?

When I tried to send, it said i needed password. and that was just a test wallet. so now i have lost $1000 because there is no such thing as bitcoin support. great....
Kindly correct me if I'm wrong: You forwarded $1000 worth of BTCitcoins to an electrum wallet (testing purposes) and you wanted to send it back to another address so you could use it but it asked for a password that you don't have (or rather forgot to remember?) If that's the case, then Lets hope that you still got the seed that was used on creating that wallet (test wallet). If you still have it, you could recover everything by restoring the wallet using that seed and just choose a new password this time (something that you could remember).

so how are people insured if someone types the wrong address, adds a zero, or forget their private key. Why did satoshi not think of this?
If the issue is a wrong valid address that someone else has, your best chance is for that person to have some humanity in it and return it to you. If you've added a 0 by mistake (not sure about this) and lastly, if you forgot the private key (without doing your own work into securing it), then it's gone.
All these errors fall under a human error (your error to be exact) so nobody should be blamed expect you.

I am smelling BS here.... give us a address so that we can validate your claim. There are a bunch of people coming to this forum, claiming that

they have lost bitcoins or that they were hacked, and nothing is actually verified. Why would you send $1000 as a test? I will send $5 for a test

and then send the $1000 when I have verified that everything went well. Satoshi is not to be blamed... he gave you the tool to be in control of

your own money.  Grin

While using bitcoin address for transaction purpose, if its send once no more remedies were there to gat it back. We are responsible for that. We need to be careful while using the wallets. According to OP a single addition of a zero to the wallet address has caused transaction to be sent to someone else. I don't believe in that, each bitcoin wallet address is unique, a single zero doesn't gonna make a change. The transaction might have gone invalid.

What exactly is your problem here? Because when you described your problem, it is purely your fault for not being considerate enough.
I am confused by your story, you sent your own bitcoins to your Electrum wallet to which you forget a password?
How come your don't even know your own password, and how it is Satoshi fault when you misplace your own coins?
If you want service which will be "user friendly" and will help you when you send your money while being drunk or high to some unknown address then please don't use BTC.

I don't know why for such serious operation with such sum of money you have choose some test wallet. I see your rank is "member" so you must to know about types of wallets and all risks about it.
I'm really sorry for what happen with you. But you can't change anything now.

This reminds me of people putting their pets in microwaves. If you do not know what you are doing, then how about reading the manual first! I am not sorry. Thousands of people manage to do it right every day. If this is to hard for you, then maybe Bitcoin is not right for you.

The problem is that there is support in different wallets, forums, reddit etc... there isn't a website that has access to your wallet and can assist you personally but people can help you do things yourself,

if your private key can be accessed by some form of authority, bitcoin would be completely different than what it is now.

No technology can cure human error. If you are just testing it, why would you send 1000$ worth of bitcoin. You know you can send a few bits right, just for testing purposes? Do not blame satoshi for your own mistakes.

If it was a "test wallet" why did you sent 1.000$ ? When you install the electrum wallet there is a recovery seed, with a message saying that you need to write down or memorize the seed to recover it. If you don't take care to remember your password, and not to save the recovery seed its your fault, not a Bitcoin problem.
