The craft I am talking about is Voyager 1. Its speed is equal to 1/17,000 the speed of light.

It means that it would take 17.000 years to move just 1 light year.

To simplify this calculation say that habitable planet is 40 light years away, not 39.5 - so to go 40 light years, it would take us 700,000 years to reach it.
