well I have determined the FPGA controllers were broken as well during shipping on both these machines.

*sigh*

so I am withdrawing the bounty but I will give the two gentleman and luke-jr who also helped me determine this 1 bitcoin each sometime tomorrow when my funds come into Gox.

Man they really need to do a better job of shipping these, If I had a working chasis with working fpga controllers and routers, I could build 2 whole 4 module machines, this... really... sucks...

thanks anyways guys please send me your BTC address and Ill make sure you each get a satoshi in the morn

it really sucks to have 2 machines come completely smashed and broken, capacitors broken off, all the modules rippped from the back plane, the aluminum is just too soft. They should really put some sort of foam bricks between the modules prior to sealing up the machines that way they dont get stripped and ripped off the back plate in this case completely smashing and ruining the tplink routers as well as the fpga controllers of two machines. I repeat... this sucks. :/

Try one of these modified WR703Ns:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SLBoat-TP-Link-TL-WR703N-Mod-64M-RAM-8M-Flash-/181082753604

It has the 8MB flash and 64MB RAM.  I believe that's the same as is done to those in the Avalons.  These don't have the RF pigtail though to connect the wifi antenna.

Yeah there is not much of a tutorial to do, its installing linux and compiling avalon-cgminer as written in the wiki.

BitSyncom, maybe you can consider using a Allwinner A10 based board running full linux distro for next Avalon batchs? main problem is lan.

Hello

After receiving an alarming amount of Avalon's that are being mutilated during shipment with stripped screw holes and broken TPLINK routers, I am offering a $500 USD Bounty for a tutorial to run Avalon directly from a linux machine. There simply must be a way to do this.

These TPLINK routers are very cheaply made and break extremely easy. I have bought replacements from here:

http://www.cutedigi.com/wireless/wifi/tl-wr703n-clone-with-openwrt-usb-camera-support-ttl-uart.html

I was able to hook it up to the Avalon in the usual way and even update the firmware to the latest Avalon firmware and set up all the settings. However It never connects to any pools.

I am told Avalon modified their TPLINKs so replacements wont work. I do not know if this is true or not. However this is going to become more and more of a problem as more Avalons come into the wild.

There must be a way to just run this from linux through the USB hub. There must be.

$500 USD paid in Bitcoin to the gentleman who ends my pain. Tongue

-JJ

C. Ethernet connection

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon#WIFI_or_Ethernet_Cable_.3F

You plug in a ethernet cable, browse to 192.168.0.100, reconfigure network and add your mining pools.
