I have all of the current VGA drivers for my Mobility Radeon HD 5870 (G73JH-A2 Asus Laptop) and SDK 2.1 installed but GUIMiner won't detect my OpenCL device. SDK 2.4 won't install correctly or at all for some reason and I'm thinking about trying SDK 2.3 for trial and error. Is there anything I might be missing or should I try using a different mining program?

The network tries to produce one block per 10 minutes. It does this by automatically adjusting how difficult it is to produce blocks.

This was fixed for me by reformatted my computer. I had NVIDIA cards installed before the ATI....guiminer would not see them until I completely reformatted my system.

It sucks...but that worked on 2 different computers.

while i don't really have your answer, and i'm sorry i'm quite new to sdk / bit coin miners, even though i'm a computer guy by trade, i would STRONGLY suggest NOT to mne on a laptop. You will burn it in no time at all. Laptops just don't have the ability to dissipate heat like pcs do... so unless ur making enough on your mining to buy a new laptop in say what 6~ months, don't bother (imo).

Only safe way I could see it work is if you remove the bottom panel and setup additional cooling or at minimum you keep it raised with a well made cooling pad + keep the vents cleaned weekly.

I have to second this -- laptops simply do not have the proper cooling and you will likely burn up your laptop's video card.
