It's very cool

We are pleased to introduce our very own Amazon Alexa skill. Text-to-speech devices are becoming more and more popular each day, with their growth set to skyrocket in the coming months and years we thought it was best to get involved early and provide our users with this useful app!

The Alexa skills store already has a few hobbyist bitcoin skills, but we felt it was time for a more featureful one, backed by our world renowned index.

There are two ways to invoke our Alexa skill, your first option is to call it directly:

You: Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the current price.

Alexa: The price of bitcoin is 1000.39 USD.

You can make this request directly, while Alexa is in idle state. This is most useful when you want a quick answer to a single question.

Of course you can compose more complex queries such as:

You: Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage to convert ten bitcoin to euros.

Alexa: 10 bitcoin is 9404.20 EUR.

We offer 5 major features, all of which can be invoked with multiple phrases, choose what comes most natural to your way of speaking.

The Bitcoin price in US dollars:

• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the bitcoin price
• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the price
• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the price of bitcoin
• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the current price
• Alexa, what is the price at BitcoinAverage
• Alexa, get the current price from BitcoinAverage

The Bitcoin price in any of the 170 worldwide currencies we support:

• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the price in pound
• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the price in E.U.R
• say your desired currency by spelling the three letter short code like above

The Bitcoin price at a specific exchange in dollars or other supported currencies:

• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the price at bitstamp (The price in us dollars is the default, if you omit the currency.)
• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the price at kraken in E.U.R.

Currently we support the following exchanges and orderbooks:

• Bitstamp (USD, EUR)
• Bitfinex (USD)
• Kraken (USD, EUR, JPY, CAD)
• Gdax (USD, EUR, GBP)

Convert specific amount of fiat currency to bitcoin:

Convert specific amount of bitcoin to fiat:

• Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage to convert ten bitcoin to sterling

Wow this is really cool update. I have watched video of amazon alexa several times and it is really useful and cool device. It will be easier to ask alexa from bed every morning "Alexa, ask BitcoinAverage for the bitcoin price" than searching for mobile on early morning and check price.

This is one cool gadget and it will be a big hit. When this app goes boom in the market it will bring the same impact to bitcoins. The more well known the item the more well known will bitcoin be. I am glad that I can really read this kind of innovation that can uplift the situation of bitcoin towards being adopted by the masses. Hope I have some funds to purchase it.

when I first read it, I thought we need to type a text in the app, but after reading it twice, actually we just need to talk. wow! it is really cool for me because I am sometimes lazy to see marketplace spot.

The increase since last check is a nice idea. Features specific to users need us to link our DB to the skill which for sure is possible. I'll add them to our tracker!

Yup, these are some pitfalls/growing pains with Alexa for sure!, though with some clear slow speech you may achieve better results, as I've found personally at least. I actually have Alexa controlling my home automation!

You can of course enable it via your app, but it should work enabling via voice, we've tested it a lot and it performs well!

FWIW, it is now working. I think maybe 'enabling a skill' requires some code update done locally from the cloud. Further, that this code update is done in a leisurely manner. Who knows? The robots are taking over!

Maybe this will be the reason that I actually end up using Alexa, the only sad thing that I'm noticing with using it is that what's going to end up happening is that it's just going to replace my simple google searches throughout the day and maybe some time looking for charts on bitcoin. Anyone else can find a usage for Alexa that wouldn't take a couple minutes of simple looking.

In all honesty this is how most of my interactions go with Siri and all the other artificial intelligence things on phones today. At least Alexa kind of knows that you're trying to say, when I ask Siri things it just texts the wrong people and gets everything I say in a butchered way.

Do you think it's worth the money to buy it?

It's still new tech, I think it all depends on what the end user needs from such voice services. As i say personally i use it for many automation tasks throughout my home, lighting, security, media etc.

The power of this stuff isn't truly unleashed until you say "Alexa, lets watch a film", then the relevant lights in the room set to the correct dim, TV turns on and starts Kodi etc
