Hi, stopping by on a random visit to the forum.

Coblee's gold 1000 BTC Casascius coins are legit.  They are 2factor.  I sold them to him when we met up in San Jose for one of the earliest Bitcoin conferences (I'd like to say May 2013)?  Without looking at my records, my eyeball's recollection was 20 to 30 coins.  He got the single largest delivery of the gold blanks that I had made up in the first place, and in exchange, I got a ride in his tesla (and some random looking digits added to this blockchain thing out there on the interwebs).  I just didn't sell very many of the completed coin at the premium price I was asking, and the more 1000 BTC became worth, the more even trusting ("testing") the 2factor system for the 1st time with your hard mined 1000 BTC becomes a heartstopping leap of faith.  So that's why I made them available that way to Coblee.  I am pretty sure I made no more than 50 of the gold coins.

That's amazing to hear it from your side and to see that you're still here watching some stuff Smiley

20 x 14 = 280BTC

That would be an epic return for these coins at current valuation.   Smiley

Not really. I spent ~100 BTC on each.

If we consider 1oz gold = ~1BTC atm, were you able to buy 280oz of gold for the BTC value spent back when you purchased them?
Exactly.
So what is the current REALISTIC price for these coins?
These are unfunded so some of the quotes I have seen are really out there.
Any updated screens of these coins because all the links on the first page are "server error" when I clicked.
Thank you.

EDIT: Currently selling for 14 BTC

Anyone interested in getting their hands on one of these coins?  I purchased one from coblee as a result of this thread and would possibly be willing to part with it.  I'll accept a little lower than coblee was asking.  Smiley

Anyway, I thought I'd give a nice bump to this topic and give everyone a flashback from the past when you could sell an oz of gold for 14 BTC (or 100 BTC when coblee bought them!).  A reminder of just how poor of a practice it is to try and value things in Bitcoin over time.  I'd also of course happily accept an offer 14 BTC from anyone in the 1 BTC = 1 BTC crowd.  Cheesy

Casascius coins have been dropping in value dramatically since I got in. I remember being offered an error coin for 1.7BTC in 2018 (I think BTC was $4k at the time), just seen that one sold recently on this forum for 1.039BTC. Obviously a massive drop when priced in BTC but also a small drop when priced in fiat. I was hoping that they would of mooned by now, but maybe they need more time? 14 BTC for an ounce is just nuts  Grin

I made a reddit thread a while back about a coin set I had:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/5lvjjr/check_out_my_casascius_1000btc_gold_coins/

These don't have BTC in them but they are my most prized possession.

User throwawaydev400 made an offer I couldn't refuse to sell him 1 coin. We agreed on a price of 14 BTC about a month ago. We met in person today for the trade. And amazingly BTC price just broke gold parity. What a momentous occasion.

Thought I'd share.

EDIT: Currently selling for 14 BTC

Do you have a ruff idea how many unfunded gold coins Mike Caldwell made?

One day the last of the remaining loaded Cas coins will be auctioned off at world renowned auction houses and will fetch well over load value...well over.  Crypto has only picked up steam and these are pretty much the first representations of bitcoin and will be a must have for billionaires to show off to their buddies.

At least that's how I see it but who knows.
