https://thepiratebay.se now has a bitcoin address on their front page for donations.

They're not really going out of their way to promote it, but it's still nice to see.

That's brilliant news. Nearly everyone uses TPB though many don't care to admit it  Grin

With an Alexa global traffic rank of 72  this has to be very significant.  http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/thepiratebay.se

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

I prefer it like that. Bitcoin is just another normal method of payment. Wink

Good point.  Smiley

It also shows how easy it is to accept bitcoins. Simply adding a line of text at the bottom of their website is going to bring in plenty of donations.

I bet it gets more users than the Alexa rank shows. Alexa is such bs as a measure of traffic. Do you actually know anyone that has it installed?

Perhaps I'm old-fashioned but I don't find:

BTC: 1Kqzbv4ekpJX3ohYWGEzMqzvf27VjBux35

very descriptive. I didn't even notice it after using the site for 2 hrs today. Why not say?

Bitcoin donations now accepted: (and then replace their btc address with mine Smiley)

Hopefully they'll make a blog post about it, after this promo runs.

inb4 some ISP hijacks their traffic and replaces the BTC address.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

I do not, but that is not the point since it is a measure of relative traffic when comparing different websites. The more important question is: Is a user of thepiratebay.se more or less likely to install Alexa than say for example a user of cnn.com? The latter site is ranked at 76 http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/cnn.com.

It is not as high as WordPress but I understand this is the second largest site that accepts bitcoin.

HTTPS?
implying it's on by default
implying people specifically types the https address or uses https everywhere

I recall they had no idea what bitcoin was and deleted a bunch of bitcoin guide torrents "or some type of bitcoin torrents". A user from bitcointalk "bitcoinforums at the time" was bitching about it.

Maybe in the future they will also allow their Users/Uploaders to add Bitcoin addresses to their profile for tipping. Smiley

https://www.coinlend.org <-- automated lending at various exchanges.
https://www.bitfinex.com <-- Trade BTC for other currencies and vice versa.

Couldn't they just put it in the description of the torrent?

More bittorrent sites follow the piratebay, accepting only bitcoins as donation.
