I sent a transaction but didn't factor in the transaction fee, so the transaction is stuck, its awaiting confirmation but been like that for 30 hours already. I tried repairing the wallet (which is supposed to reset the blockchain) and now its saying the are 0 bitcoins in the wallet, but still no way to cancel the stuck transaction. How can I get the bitcoins back?

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

You should provide the transaction ID/link so we could help you out (kindly post an update to your first post on this thread with the link).

Here's a thread that has solutions to most issues (in case you would like to solve the issue by yourself): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1802212.0

Update:
Your transaction just got it's first confirmation (thanks to ViaBTC): https://blockchain.info/tx/d9152801f9a9bc3cf1548a2f0c4b7128e1c7eec7eb69d662bd0068825af2a075

That's not a transaction, that's a Bitcoin address. This is your transaction shown in a block explorer.

https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/tx/d9152801f9a9bc3cf1548a2f0c4b7128e1c7eec7eb69d662bd0068825af2a075

This is your transaction's ID

d9152801f9a9bc3cf1548a2f0c4b7128e1c7eec7eb69d662bd0068825af2a075

Keep trying to submit your transaction's ID to this website until it says acceleration succeeded. The website's overwhelmed with requests, so you will have to keep trying a few times an hour.

https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/

Afterwards the viabtc mining pool will confirm your transaction in the next block it mines.
