I think this is a good idea. the presence of these domains, the existence of bitcoin can be increased. and the domain is used for e-commerce so that people would know that the website accepts payment with bitcoin.

In my opinion, it just seems to long and annoying for anyone to actually want to use it in their everyday lives. Imagine owning some sort of site where it is Bitcoin.Bitcoin or something like that? You can't even attempt to tell me that doesn't look dumb in the least as it really is just a big waste of time.


Tons of other domain extensions (or whatever they're called) which work fine and I'd rather to continue to use such as .com, .us, EVEN .xyz looks nicer then .bitcoin for crying out loud.

So, that'd be a no from me. For what that's worth.

This is a nice idea to see this domain, but the scammers will for sure get into that and try to manipulate because there will be good and big whales that will involve there. And I hope OP platform if this will be implemented will gonna be more secure and good so his money will not lead into nothing.

You can mine Namecoins to grab .bit domains
They're not accessible to everybody through a normal DNS server though.

The market interested to create a domain name with .bitcoin is currently too small to see somthing about it. And the fact that all the big players will be still only interested with the popular extensions like .com .net ect. Or they could be interested to buy one but only with the goal to protect their brand like all the big brands do.. for exemple .porn, microsoft is of course not in this niche but still owns this domain, to be sure not someone buy microsoft.porn and does something that could damage the rep of microsoft. Even the artists do this after seeing some garbages done using their name

And how this can harm the reputation or hinder in the future? I think that if no bad association is called by the name of the new domain, then there should be no problems. And such harmful as Microsoft already have a big name.

Not saying this can harm the reputation. Mainly the seo spammers will be interested with a .bitcoin extension. No startups, for exemple,  would be interested with it. You can see with others "exotics" in the market. You rarely something serious build on it

As time progresses I am sure we will see more and more niche domain names.
I know that we have domain names like .gold .game .football .guitars .bike etc.
So I have no problem with domain .bitcoin I still think it is not needed (at least for now) and too niche.
Maybe we could have general cryptocurrency domain called .crypto ?

Yup thats exactly my thinking, .bitcoin seems too long a standard 2 to 4 letter extension seems neat and professional. Now, in this case, a .btc might be a good alternative to .bitcoin

No, .bitcoin is not too long for a gTLD, don't know which one is biggest, but there are some quite big:

The issue with a bitcoin gTLD is who owns the rights to the name, you cannot simply register a gTLD, it has to be generic or you need to own the rights to the name!

I don't think these kinds of TLD are even effective anyway. Name me some famous domains using TLDs that are not what we are used to right now. Aside from .com, .net, .org, or somewhere between those lines, all other TLDs are useless and a waste of time actually. I don't think I'll be going to a website with a .bitcoin even if it does push through.

I'm not sure that .bitcoin or .btc or anything actually fits with anything.  Freebitco.in works but Freebitco.btc is just weird.  That would be the same for any Bitcoin related sites - there's no point saying Bitcoin a hundred times in the site's title.

.bitcoin domain should be delegated by famous registry after create domain.
It is able to cloudfounding (bitcoin and dollar).
Cloudfounding patron can get domain fast.

I think it would be a bad idea to have this domain for bitcoin. It is deviated from the norm and because of this, people might get confused and other criminals will try to use this to take advantage of people (using it in scams, ponzi schemes, other criminal activities.) I know that it may sound better and cool but the outcome of it may provide a negative view for BTC. We should consider that even if we are in the age of technological discoveries, some people are still very ignorant about it and having a .bitcoin domain would still be very confusing to them.
