Hi Bitstamp watchers,

Apologies, I'm guessing it's likely there's already a thread talking about this but I've failed to find it...

According to bitcoincharts.com there's not been any trading on bitstampUSD for 1 day, 6 hrs.  Do we know whether there's a problem?

It must be a problem of bitcoincharts, bitstamp works fine for me (and the price is different too).

Just got cut in half
One 2k wall was already eaten today at 94.
And another one popped up.
I just wonder how can the price try to follow mtgox, when gox doesn't process withdrawals?

I thought gox was just having withdraw issues with people in the USA

ya lately stamp likes to be about eight dollars below gox. right now stamp is 83.72 and gox is 92.08 thats crazy, seams you could go to bitinstant and have time put fiat into stamp and then buy btc then transfer them to another wallet then to gox cash them out on gox and wash rinse repeat. why would this not work? (besides the fact that bitinstant takes a 3% cut) but thats not enough to take your profits away. strange huh.

Why is everyone so infatuated with arbitrage?

If it was as easy as "cash out at Gox, rinse and repeat" everyone would be doing it and the price diff would be 0.

For arbitrage to work in it's current state you would need a months supply of fiat so you could wire funds several times a day to the low exchange and wire back to your bank account everyday from the high exchange.

And that's assuming very small fees to transfer all this money.

Exactly...even if you had the lowest fee's on Gox and Bitstamp that's a percentage or so...but the wires would have to be moderately big in order to cover the wire transfer fee's which can be $40 each transfer.

To make that <1% you have to transfer $4k minimum per transfer....not huge but that's another 2%.

So, your fee's could potentially be 5%...making arbitrage basically a waste of time.

I think people are just infatuated with the concept of creating an instantaneous money making "loop".

this! i have no desire to do all of that work. bla. but it is lovly to think about. but rilly cant you just do this? go to bitinstant and not buy coins but put fiat on the money side of bitstamp. put buy orders in low like a few dollars low. you know it will hit that. then when you buy for 81 bucks you have your coins then send coins (no fee) to wallet then wallet to mt gox (or just to gox) and sell at there price and send back to  your account. you have made about eight per coin minus any gox fees for deposits and 3.99% fee of bitinstant. maybe not the most money ever but say a hundred coins and ..... nope i just remembered 500 dollar max daily limit of buying on bitinstant. im sure you and "your buddies" could set up ten accounts. idk prob not worth it but it does seam intising. say due to fees that eight dollar diff would only be 4. well times that by 100 coins and that a free 400 bucks. maybe get a thousand coins (if your rich) and then thats 4k you would make. this is not exact science but it seams like there is something there.

Bitstamp currently 87% of the way to overtaking mtgox as the largest USD market.  Hopefully the thread title can be changed soon.
