I'm looking to purchase 3 more RX470's. I'm on the fence though because the next gen RX5xx series is rumored to come out next month. ROI is better than ever due to eth prices being up. What do you guys think? Should I just mine with what I have or pull the trigger on a couple more cards? Are you guys holding off on buying cards until the new ones come out?

Rumor is that the entry price for the 570/580 rebrand will be slightly lower than the 470/480 was but its unknown for sure and we won't know for at least another month right now.

I just jumped on a deal yesterday for some sapphire 480s with the 7000mhz memory for a new rig I'm building because the price was right.

Right now with the current price increases that are occuring on ETH, waiting a month is highly questionable whether or not that would be the better play.

My bet is, if you can get your GPU's at the right price, the increased return you'll get between now and next 30 days will outweigh any potential cost savings there may be by waiting a month to buy a RX4xx at a cheaper price or purchase an RX5xx that performs slightly better.

Buy now and earn money yet. We do not know whether the new RX cards are powerful enough for mining or something has changed and Miner would crash? With the RX480 you have an approved system and can calculate your earnings.

I was thinking the same thing.  I'm pulling in around $2 a card a day.  So 30 days is $60 a card.  I don't think the resale value of the rx470's will drop that much once the RX5xx's come out.  I think I'm just going to order a couple cards and mine away while the sun is shining.     Thanks guys for the input.

The RX570/RX580 are supposed to be priced slightly lower than RX470/RX480 MSRP's but we know how long it took for these cards to be available at even the MSRP, let alone cheaper.
That, coupled with the fact that the new cards will just be re-brands with a 3% increase in core and 5% increase in memory clocks, means there's ZERO benefit in waiting for the newer cards.
If you have the money to buy now, just buy now while the cards are cheap. You will have made almost 20% of the cards cost by the time the new ones show up in retail.

You can buy now the RX 480. RX 470 I think it can be a waste of money as is not a good performer against the RX 480 and the RX 480 consumes only about 40 watt more energy. If you have money to spare wait for the RX 570/580 as AMD is far ahead in the game of mining.

Yeah, seems like we gotta be nearing the top of a GPU mining bubble.  I haven't been paying to much attention -- are newegg and the rest of em raising all the GPU prices like they used to?  I was thinking of more efficient 480 GPUs but I might keep mining on my old stuff for now because the current rates don't seem that sustainable.. with all the mining farms probably starting up.  The time to get into mining is when everyone else thinks it's dumb.

Since the ethereum dudes won't have POS ready for a year, they are going to delay the time bomb... and if they don't, when the hashing power switches over to ETC, it will drive up the price.

ZEC was high because of slow start but it has come down a lot.  The inflation rate is not getting any higher, so this should be the bottom.  Why aren't prices lower already? Why would it be dumped?

I know a lot of people like to hate on it ,but the logic isn't very good.

The ZEC price did a full vertical at under 30 back up to 40 because of whales. They can only afford that for so long and the only reason it went up at all since that time is because all alts were moving up.

ZEC will never be accepted mainstream by powerful governments because of the privacy options. Don't let the special interest fool you there. It wont get dark market use because for all we know the company has a back door on it. It's not decentralized and for the people. ZEC is just a speculators coin and only people pumping it think it will hit huge prices again but the utility behind the coin is too tainted for that to happen. ZCL/ZEN or XZC will do better at taking it over.

If Zencash grows fast as ZEC falls than we will be safe for Equihash at least. XZC might take over that niche instead and that won't be a GPU mining coin for us. DumpCash is marked for dumping


People mining ETC means more people will be dumping it, increased selling pressure. Especially farms that need to cover electric. Small miners make better holders.

You don't need SLI or crossfire for mining, you can mix cards.

Unless Groovy1962 is right about the ETH mining timebomb has been delayed, investing in hardware for ETH right now is foolish. Another factor is if ETH its self is a bubble but that is a topic for the altcoin discussion section far as going in depth on that one. ETH is largely an ICO and I don't speculate the prices on those

The 480 will hash more and consume less electric than the 970. Don't invest in hardware on a random whim. Put some consideration into whether or not this mining surge will last long enough for your hardware investment to profit. If mining is short lived you may be better off with the 970 since it can SLI for gaming and make 1/3rd to 1/2 an ROI at least. Alternatively you will be selling one GPU on the used GPU market if you mix them up and there will be lots of used RX cards. The supply of used RX cards will outweigh the buying demand

Yep, I'm considering building a 6 gpu rig with a big frame in the future, but for the beginning I started with buying an MSI rx 480 which should arrive in a few days.

Use corsair-link PSU and corsair-link software. It tells You exactly how much power is rig using. Measured with killawatt also and there was no difference at all.
Just for info: 6X MSI RX480 8G - ETH 800W in total, XMR 650W, ZEC 750W.
