I added a pie chart with proportions of block versions in the last 864 shares (1/10th of the sharechain) to my p2pool frontend.

Not sure why, but my "Very nice" reply to your post was removed by a mod...

Perhaps not enough substance??? Anyway, great work on exposing the previously undocumented sentiment on softforks of P2Pool miners.

I'm mining with an old BlockEruptor USB (the 300MH ones), and I keep seeing accepted shares in P2Pool, but the web UI says no shares. Any idea why?

EDIT: I see why, it's so low power that I'm putting power in, but not enough shares for an accepted share from P2Pool. Oh well, thanks!

EDIT2: Is it still beneficial to the network if I run a p2pool node without mining to it?

Your node front end will show you "expected time to share", give your hashrate a day or so to stabilize and it will be relatively accurate.

More nodes never hurts...

Sorry don't know.
It's the http://uk.p2pool.science:9332/static/ node.
Possibly bitcoin system wallet is outdated

Sorry don't know.
It's the http://uk.p2pool.science:9332/static/ node.
Possibly bitcoin system wallet is outdated

So the alert was added along with BIP9 (version bits) and is triggered when:

> If at any stage 50 of the last 100 blocks have unexpected bits set, you get Warning: Unknown block versions being mined! It’s possible unknown rules are in effect.

It's likely the node is running either BU or bitcoin Classic and that is what triggered it. In an attempt to stay apolitical, if you support that you should stay there, if you don't, find a SegWit signaling node, if you don't care find a node that signals that (thanks to veqtrus's graph we now know that's ~90% of the P2Pool network).

Right now the node is mining valid shares and will continue to until a soft/hard fork occurs, at which point Forrest will likely release a hard fork of P2Pool.... after that it gets very political and messy so I'll stop there Wink

Thank you for your answer and support.
For me is not a political issue.
It's just a good node that can handle high dificulty shares with low doa share %. As long as they are valid.

I've opened an issue on github about p2pool generating small blocks. https://github.com/p2pool/p2pool/issues/341

I think it's due primarily to shares being limited to at most 50 kB of new transactions per share, which means that it takes 20 shares (about 10 minutes) before a 1 MB block can be generated by p2pool. Exceeding this limit will cause a p2pool share to get punished in case of an orphan race, and so the p2pool code prefers to remove transactions from the block template. As an exacerbating factor, it seems that the p2pool mempool is limited to 2.5 MB; we may want to increase this as well.

I've already included an increase in my segwit PR.

As mentioned on github, the 100 kB of that PR is better, but insufficient.
