Just a quick question, i was told on reddit that low hash rate miners don't really work on p2p is that true?

Just to know, I am wondering why I can't attach stratum-proxy to my p2pool node. I saw about 100 pages back a conversation about some error with stratum-proxy, did anyone ever resolve that?
you dont need stratum proxy for p2pool

All miners don't really work on p2pool.  But hey, the devs would rather run around waving their arms in the air, blaming everyone else rather than fixing p2pool.

None of the ASICMiner devices work properly, Avalons don't work properly, KnC don't work properly, and Antminers don't work properly.  There's issues with BFL stuff too.  Oddly enough, all those miners work fine with almost every other pool.  But, it's the hardware manufacturer's fault they don't work with p2pool.  Obviously.   Roll Eyes

I have the worst luck, I start mining p2pool again and the pool has really great luck for the two days before I get my first share in and as soon as I do get a share we get the longest block in 2 months. Damnit!

Much patience is needed for p2pool.

What is the FINANCIAL incentive for me to switch to p2pool from GHASH.IO?

P2pool has slightly higher "luck" due to a lower number of orphans.

If you intend to hold bitcoin long term, there is a financial benefit to keeping the system healthy.

I have no intention of keeping Bitcoins long term I cash them in for fiat just about daily. I'm now starting to buy items on overstock with my BTC as well.

Well then the higher luck may interest you.  P2pool is more efficient for block broadcasting, so it gets fewer orphans.  This gives p2pool slightly higher luck.

That's true.
Right now, stats are saying:

Lol doesn't really answer my question but thank you. I was told that because of the difficulty that p2p is looking for, miners that have <1 Gh/s are pointless because they can't/don't solve shares of the required difficulty.

BFL 65nm ASIC and ASICminer's USB Erupters are working great on p2pool. They are best performing devices for all SHA256 altcoins and for p2pool as well. They getting most efficiency, beating all other machines, resulting with higher payouts than expected on p2pool.

ALL other devices, from ALL other manufacturers, (Antminers, Bi-Fury USBs, BE Blades etc.) they have significant bugs and flaws, and are not able to mine alternative currencies, like ZET, FRC. And they of course not mining on p2pool as well.

I must be missing something.  According to p2pool stats, current share difficulty is 829k.  It'd take a whole lot of USB erupters to get a share that size in any reasonable amount of time.

The high share difficulty is one of the downsides for p2pool.

I know.  I've used p2pool before.  Last time I switched off is when the share difficulty started to get out of hand for my 10gh/s rig.  That was back when it was 80k or so.

None of the ASICMiner devices work properly, Avalons don't work properly,

Avalons do work properly at least when using a good firmware with a recent enough cgminer (3.2.2 here).
Bitburner Fury miners are working well too.

But what do I know ? I just actually configured them to mine on p2pool with 100+% efficiency. My experience may not correlate with someone's random assertions.

Good to hear, I had some Bitburner Fury miners but without greater success. Probably not enough tweaking with timing. Unfortunately, I sold them Wink I had no time to configure them to work better on p2pool Smiley
Also, yes, I forgot to mention Avalons on my post earlier on!

Ok guys, just here to ask a dumb question.

I am currently getting about 111% efficiency on P2pool just because my connection is pretty good.
I'm also getting about only slightly more than 90% of my usual hashrate when mining on p2pool with my asics, for no adequately explained reason.

Am I right in assuming that these roughly cancel out, making the luck bonus "worth it", theoretically, assuming I can maintain my 111% efficiency on average?

You don't need to hold bitcoins long term to have a financial incentive to promote a healthy Bitcoin network. Perhaps you would like to continue instantly selling your mined bitcoins in the future? You do have a hardware investment don't you? Your hardware is only going to continue providing you with income if people continue to have confidence in Bitcoin. If there is a loss in confidence in the network thanks to centralization, people may stop purchasing bitcoins from miners and Bitcoin mining hardware will probably be worthless.

Maybe hashing power centralization won't result in a loss of confidence in Bitcoin, but as a long term Bitcoin holder, I can tell you with certainty that it will affect my confidence in the system.

If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins.

Avalons don't work properly
Work absolutely fine.
Quote
and Antminers don't work properly
also work fine.

(My selective quoting is only of the hardware that I'm personally running hundreds of GH/s on P2Pool with but given that you're outright wrong about those, I assume the rest of your list is equally BS)

Antminers are not responding to LP/work restart, don't bother to setup p2pool for them, they are just not compatible and you will get 30% or more Rejected work.
Single blade antminer S1, Works fantastically on P2Pool:

And if there are non-trivial numbers of people with miners that don't respond to LPs then you sure as heck don't want to be sharing a pool with them. Higher latency or the lack of LP will ding (severely!) you on P2Pool but these things increase orphaned blocks generally. With other pools that aren't so critical amount miner timeliness that cost is shared by the miners. If your setup isn't screwy you're paying for other people's screwyness. Not on P2Pool.
