Hello everyone,

It's not been a long time since I discovered Bitcoin and it fascinated me. I have created wallets online and with some software. I need help with some things though.

Should I use an online or a software wallet? I have searched around and people say that software wallets are much better.

How can i add funds to the wallet you will suggest? I tried adding funds on Blockchain but it won't accept my credit card. I live in Greece if that makes any difference.

That's about it. Thank you for your answers!
The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

first some terminology that i find "not-so-right".
you are using a web wallet not online wallet. and it is called blockchain.info not blockchain

to answer your question it is best if you use a "software" aka desktop wallet because web wallets have lots of risks.
read:
https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631151.0

and to be even safer you need to learn more about cold storage.
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Cold_storage
http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/coldstorage.html

and to buy bitcoin if blockchain.info doesn't accept your credit card you need to try and see which bitcoin exchange service accepts it (not sure which one works with Greece banks) check kraken, bitfinex, bitstamp, cex.io, btc-e.com
or check out localbitcoins.com

Software wallet is in most cases the best alternative. Using an online wallet, you do not control your coins in the same way. To buy bitcoins, you could try an exhange operating in EU like Kraken or Safello, or you could try to find someone to buy from using LocalBitcoins.

No I tried some others but they needed my ID and I am not really fond of using my ID like that. I am trying it right now. I have Bitcoin Core and Electrum. Do you have any info on how to add my funds there?

I see. Thank you for correcting me. I am sure my terminology has much more issues and I hope to resolve them as soon as possible.

Will be reading all of them! Do I need to add my ID on every website? And selfies too?? ( on cex.io )

Cex.io is ok for me but it requires a selfie with my ID and photos of my ID. Is it safe?

Hello everyone,

It's not been a long time since I discovered Bitcoin and it fascinated me. I have created wallets online and with some software. I need help with some things though.
First of all, welcome to the fascinating world of bitcoin!! Smiley

Should I use an online or a software wallet? I have searched around and people say that software wallets are much better.
Largely depends.  If your only planning on holding a small amount of bitcoin in order to play around with it and perhaps make a couple of small purchases then some sort of web-wallet like blockchain.info will likely suit your needs just fine.  If however, your looking to invest a decent amount of fiat into bitcoin and hold it safely, a hard wallet like Trezor highly recommended.  Also, if you decide to run a full-node (best option overall but resource intensive), you have the dual benefit of a wallet that actually downloads and works on the entire chain and supporting the network at the same time Wink

How can i add funds to the wallet you will suggest? I tried adding funds on Blockchain but it won't accept my credit card. I live in Greece if that makes any difference.
Given that you live in Greece I would strongly recommend going with an established service like https://www.coinbase.com/join/514ae1456770d04c83000025.  They allow purchasing and selling of bitcoin via ACH deposit to bank accounts, and now even Paypal.

That's about it. Thank you for your answers!
My pleasure.  Best of luck to you Smiley

Glad to be part of it!

Yes, at the moment I am only trying to get to know how bitcoin works and probably some transactions just for fun. There is a chance I might invest a certain amount in the future but for now I have lots of things to learn.

I am currently having my ID verified! Let's see how it goes. What's ACH by the way?

I haven't used them myself so I cannot say for sure, but it should probably be safe. I think that all exchanges operating legally within the European Union have to require ID, so either you will have to provide it or, if you value your anonymity, buy the bitcoins directly from another person (using LocalBitcoins for example).

Software wallets are better if you can use them, otherwise make sure to use an online wallet that only allows you to access your funds.

Software wallets are OK, but if you're looking to hold a really high amount of Bitcoin in the future maybe you should invest in a hardware wallet like TREZOR from the start so that if your computer ever gets infected with Bitcoin related malware you know you're safe.

don't worry it is not that bad. they are actually common mistakes and it is just confusing when you use the alternative terms instead.

and as for cex.io or any other site you need to check their FAQ for details but whenever you are depositing fiat from a bank (in this case with credit cards) you should follow the fiat world rules so they will ask you for ID.

unless you are using a web fiat wallet like perfectmoney and using an exchange service like btc-e.com!

i advice you to use software wallet so you can fully controlled your bitcoin, you can use multibit or electrum for your pc or use mycelium or jaxx for you android phone. when you want to add funds in the wallet, maybe it will be good if you use third service like localbitcoin to buy more bitcoin because its too risky if you use your credit card directly in the website.

First of all, I think you made a excellent choice to get into Bitcoin. If I live in Greece, I would have done that a long time ago already. Your country has gone through some serious financial challenges in the last couple of years and you know how banks failed you in times when you needed them the most.

You could consider using, https://localbitcoins.com/country/GR or ask our own local Greece community here, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=120.0

Have you searched for any local Bitcoin ATMs in your area? http://www.cnbc.com/2015/08/19/greece-could-soon-get-1000-bitcoin-atms.html

Need some spare btc for a new PC

Hello everyone,

It's not been a long time since I discovered Bitcoin and it fascinated me. I have created wallets online and with some software. I need help with some things though.

Should I use an online or a software wallet? I have searched around and people say that software wallets are much better.

How can i add funds to the wallet you will suggest? I tried adding funds on Blockchain but it won't accept my credit card. I live in Greece if that makes any difference.

That's about it. Thank you for your answers!

I've joined bitcoin long time ago and I' using online blockchains wallet ever since, since I'm not trading or keeping any large amounts of btc and I keep it pretty safe.

If you're looking to buy btc, I'd suggest you to head over to your language section on this forum and ask people if they know some local online exchange service (I used to trade here for FIAT until someone posted the exchange office they're using that's from my country and pays out in my local currency), if there isn't any then you can also trade here on the forums in the "exchange" section or use localbitcoins.

Need some spare btc for a new PC that can at least run Adobe Dreamweaver.

I'm using both web wallet and software wallet. If you want a secure wallet for your bitcoin, I will recommend a software wallet. Try electrum, most trusted by many bitcoin enthusiast just like me.

If you want to sleep well, for sure you need Desktop wallet. I recommed you Multibit Classic - i start with this wallet, and i use it till now. Not always, but i must say, that is my basic personal wallet till now. Many experienced users will say that this is old fashion, but for the start (in my opinion) is very good.
Other very important thing is - what is your target? Do you want only invest in Bitcoin or you want trade? Both of this options have better solutions than MultiBit, but this you will understand with time, and with experience.. Wink

I tend to agree, using a desktop wallet where you own your addresses and private keys is the way to go.

Wink

Multibit was good in the past but now its horrible to use it as you cannot put additional fees while sending bitcoins which takes almost a day for transactions to get confirmed as their fees is fixed and that is too low and I think electrum wallet is the best.

Use it as a lesson and experience so is not wrong way again in the future to seeking of bitcoin.
I am also get started on Bitcoin with joined a ponzy scheme, the MMMG.
And I was disappointed because I lost my money. Don't believe in any HYIP site or ponzy scheme.
