One more added in the hacking virus list of information. It is always good to recheck the address where you are sending the payment and double checking is not wrong as some time we copy paste wrongly leaving some letters which will loss us. and always dont download any exe or software which are offering you free bitcoins or free tasks software to earn free bitcoins as this are all hacking techniques.
Yeah i've once got this shitty virus on my computer almost sending my bitcoin to Unknown adress but now it's already gone in my computer try check it with your Anti Virus/Malware

Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

Honestly this is my first time hear the virus like that. Whoever made this, I think he is a really smart people. He knows there's no way to insert our address in anywhere but copy-paste it. At last everything must perform with our precision to anticipate loss.

Hmm, unusual. This is the discovery or hackers in sufficient levels of professional, for the hackers to still in their learning stage will be difficult to solve or create a virus that affects the very bad thing when it's been scattered inside the device. To be honest, the first time I know that there are people who can do this in the bitcoin. The reason I think this would not be applicable in the bitcoin bitcoin system, because it is strong enough. But this is real evidence, although it depends on the security level of the account owner

I've seen this problem happened to others before. Thank you for alerting the community again so that new Bitcoiners can be aware of.

Do you know where this "virus" originated from? Does it come from a download or just visiting a website?

Does it also affect QR Code? I use a mobile wallet and I always just scan QR code instead of copy-pasting Bitcoin address.
Both downloading file and visiting website could infect your computer. As far as I know that this virus actually replaces the thing you've just copied with specific text which is in this case, a btc address.
But, there's also possibilities that this virus will replace the address when you're going to send to transaction instead, but, if when you're scanning your QR code and the transaction be sent automatically, it'll be fine, I suppose.

Thank you for the information. I think that the "virus" might only happen when ones is trying to send a transaction. If not then this bug is very easily detectable.

I haven't know of this bug to exist when scanning a bitcoin QR code but it doesn't take more than a couple of seconds to double check that the address you are sending to is the correct one.
Always check the first 4 characters, another 4 consecutive characters in the middle and a couple at the end and you'll be right, the odds of someone creating a vanity address that meets that criteria are extremely slim to non existence.

Yes. I always check the Bitcoin address on both sides before clicking the send button. I also haven't heard about any mobile users getting infected by this "copy-pasting bug" yet. However attacker may be in the process or already created a version for mobile wallet. So regardless of platform, we should always check before sending.

So sad! This profile does not appear as the #1 result (on anonymous) Google searches anymore.

Time to be active on the crypto forums again? Proud to be one of the few Legendary members of the Sparkie Red Dot!

Gonna put this on my resume if I ever join a cryptocurrency/blockchain industry!

I remember similar alerts in the past about malware which will put some different bitcoin address into "to" field of bitcoin wallet when we are getting read to process some out going transactions. As far as I learn these will work specific to wallet types and hence just taking steps according to which wallet type we are using would be sufficient precautions to avoid becoming victims.

Last time I remember I totally re-installed my OS jut to ensure my security. Not clicking unnecessary links here on the forum is the one of the prevention step I am following after that.

What kind of websites would you even get affected by a virus like this from? I don't think I download anything or go anywhere online where I could be a victim of stuff like this.

I don't even click on links here.

That type of change in copy to clipboard occurs to me when I copy some text from a website but for bitcoin addresses I heard that for the first time. thanks you very much for bringing it to us to inform us about it. I often do not care for the address I copy and paste but from now I will check my addresses carefully.

Recently There's a Virus I am victim of it and some of my friends, clients etc are affected too. This is called Copy-Paste Virus.
Please be careful while you paste a BTC address or Copy an Address.

The virus works like-- You copied a BTC address to send and while you paste it, It changed to other address and the funds sends to other account.

Oh yah... ive been also a victim of this very recents
and everytime you copy the specific addresss.. you wont notice that this is the address your pasting for deposit 13JF5274VuNthhwKkLrYyZW73smjSYAEen
you can check the address.. that address is getting rich and richer and richer.. and i dont think anyone own this address coz for almost 12btc in total input there is no atleast one output from that address.. who will have the access of this address?? was possible for the blockchain wallet owner to access this specific address??

- when my two deposit not  come to the spected address i check my wallet so i found it badly in a different address..  then when i tried it again, tried to copy thr address from casino then paste it to deposit page yah its awesome that the addrees is not the one you copied.. if you copy only the adress when you paste it, will be difference but when i tried the copy the sentence with the btc address i paste it correctly..
i contact the support from one casino asking why is this happened? if this is a bug or hack
but they replied me that the browser i am using is affed with virus which affecting third parties blah blah.. so maybe the only way is to clean the browsers if everyday possible just do it.. just to prevent that situation..

So do you think that cleaning browsers everyday will prevent that malware? what if that malware or virus is from the casino? I have many friends here in forum using bitcoin everyday, but it seems they didn't encounter it before. So I think it is from site that you always browse.

Surprised that still works. On a desktop PC there is no sensible mining doable anymore. And handling funds should take place far away from any production mining site, known best practise.

I never use Windows based OS's for Bitcoin transactions, because it is always the target for these hacks. I have a Tails bootup disk for another

computer and I use that to make transactions on the internet with Bitcoin. You always have to check if the destination address is correct... so it

is mostly newbies that will fall for that.  Roll Eyes ..... Get Tails and a Trezor hardware wallet and you will be fine.  Wink

Most casual users of Bitcoin would rather not buy a Trezor hardware wallet AND INSTALL tails so that'd be out of the question for a lot of people. It's really just pushing people to be more inconvenienced when they could simply just double and triple check the trancation to confirm that it's sending to the wallet that they want it to be sent to.

This is rather simple on a platform like BitGo, which makes you put in the wallet you're sending it to and then you go through numerous what's your login, Authy info and then you see where you're sending - more of like a summary page.

Click confirm and you're done. This seems to eliminate any chance for this type of virus to do anything, as you should be able to notice it in action rather simply.

Well with the time it takes for the traditional Blockchain to load and get itself up to date from a fresh start the ones who actually run the full node would triple check for most things.
But in the worst case if they are lucky they could double spend with a higher transaction fee seeing how slow the chain is right now basically RBF post 0.12.0 before that DS.
https://bitcoincore.org/en/faq/optin_rbf/
https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/
http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/43872/how-to-apply-rbf-replace-by-fee

Still would be cautious doing this and learning how to do it when its at 0 Conf is not a really good feeling if you did get hit by a virus
Simply put double check always.

With a clean computer and an active AV on it you should be safer. Use a good antivirus software to clean your computer or better re-install the OS altogether.
Linux is the way to go, Windows is just the biggest target for viruses and malware.
