Hi folks,

I'm currently building a new GPU mining rig. I just finish to build the frame, and received my Asrock h81 pro btc r2 Grin.

I'm still hesitant with the GPU choice. I was going for some rx480 8Gb (around 220), but I just found some Sapphire AMD R9 Furys 4Gb for 240 Euros each (The nitro Tri-X OC version).
I read that Eliovp did a lot of work around the bios and serious undervolting to reduce the power draw on the nano.

What can I expect from a -100mV regular r9 Fury with 3584 Stream processors instead of 4096 for the nano, and what about the power consumption...

What are your advices ?

In the meantime, new Vega are "just around the corner" and are expect to be there in few weeks...

Thanks  Wink

PS:
I'm not really sure of the the OS, I currently use NiceHash on Windows auto-switching algo with 3 GTX 1070, XMR mining with four X5670 on ubuntu with xmr-stak-cpu, and genoil eth miner on ubuntu too.
I think I will try to mine ETH+DCR or ZEC with this new rig.

I wouldn't hold on for Vega, it will be expensive. Furys are really good for Zcash mining, and decent for everything else, but even with undervolting you won't reach the power consumption of a RX 480. If power is expensive in your country, go for the 480, otherwise, a Fury might be an excellent choice for this pricepoint.

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes Vega will be expensive, but it will also lower the old generation prices..

I'm in France, electricity is not really cheap but not too expensive.. just around 0.135 cents (Euro) a kWh.

Fury might be interesting for you if you want to mine ZEC as its price is not much higher than RX480.

You will have about 460hashs for 200W vs 330hash @ 130 W for the RX480 which might be worth it even with the french electricity prices.
https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/zec
For the other currencies (ETH/XMR) however it will be much less interesting as the difference is rather small between both models.
+ You have to consider that the profitability will likely decrease over the next month (people building rigs as mining is profitable => difficulty increases => profitability decreases), so the proportion of your earnings affected to pay the electrivy bill will likely increase as well. Considering this Fury cards are a more risky investment.

So if you are a ZEC believer, go for Fury, in the other case, RX 470 or 480 will be more suitable.

AMD will be doing a rebrand again, the 470/480 series will get rebranded to 570/580, with almost no changes, except the cpu clock speeds.
Vega will be in a different segment, so don't expect the prices of 470/480 to fall much, maybe 5-10% in time.

Personaly im not considering Vega to be a viable option as it will probably cost 2xRX480 8Gb and i doubt it will hash at twice the speed of 480, making ROI even harder.
Usualy, high end GPU's are not realy ROI friendly.

I have a Sapphire Fury and I haven't found the limits yet but did a few simple changes and this is what I get on Claymore Zcash

-72mv 1000mhz core 500mhz Vram 440H/s runs at 55c at 60% fan

1100mhz core 525mhz Vram 480H/s running around 63c a about 70% fan

Hope this helps, getting a power monitor soon so I'll see the difference in power draw soon, I got it the same price used as a RX480 so it is great value.
