Questions for Antminer R4/T9 owners

Hi all,

I had a now very obsolete group of antminer s1's, and contemplating getting an Antminer T9 or R4. What are people's experiences with them? I can see the R4 has less hashing power than the T9 and is more expensive, and each needs their corresponding power supplies.

So which is the better? Anyone have a power meter that can tell me how each of them are drawing when running at full whack, so i can calculate out the pricing?

T9 is designed for a data center.  It's hot and very loud. R4 is designed for the home. It's quiet like a PC.

Both R4 and T9 are using same chips so the efficiency should be more or less "comparable"
But lot of users complains about the reliability of the R4 (and S9) ...  several issues after few months of mining. The higher price is probably due to possible home use.
The T9 is covered by improved warranty but I don't know exact details and as stated above it is too loud (70+ dB) for home mining.

There is plenty information in ANN threads for each miner. You just have to read through.

S9... with a lot of problem but if you are luchy, and you get one without problem is very powerfull, and very loud noise...   0.098 J/GH
T9... not so optimized, 0.126J/GH.
R4... very low noise, 52db.. 0.1 J/GH... with a lot of problem too...

I have both.

The R4's have been nothing but trouble, both of mine have been returned for repair due to failed hash boards, one has been back twice. Whereas the T9's, I haven't needed to look at since I first powered them up.

As mentioned above the T9's are in no way a home miner, way too loud.

2 R4's in my stable.  First one, R4B2, has been basically rock solid since day one.  This includes long run times - though once after 54 days something went wonky and it needed a warm reboot - and frequent restarts for changing pool priorities to "spread the love" as it were.  Love it, and it's very quiet running which let's me have it in my bedroom with comparable to less noise than a small space heater.  My R4B4, however, dropped a hash board as soon as it arrived at the DC after I ran it for a day to set it up and verify it's running.  That pissed me off.  It's a 50% failure rate based on units, or a 25% failure rate based on hash boards.  Totally unsatisfactory and full on amateur hour. After being offline for a month, sent back to the Empire's droid tech center for repair, she's been hashing away for a little over a week and so far so good.  Gee, let's hope it'll keep running as advertised, or is that too much to ask?

Only thing making the T9s more reliable is the higher voltage and clockrate which also makes it less efficient. At least you guys didn't get the SP20 'Home Miner' which was completely falsely advertised... Bitmain just didn't do anything.

it seem have really high quality components...
read really good things...
seem to be able to rum for long time!
bitmain, isn't able to produce high quality ASIC....
16nm die it really hardest to manage...
and bitMain isn't Intel or Amd.

 At least you guys didn't get the SP20 'Home Miner' which was completely falsely advertised...

 The SP20 was perfectly capable of being turned down enough to be a quiet home miner - just don't expect it to achieve 1.4+ TH when doing so.

 It's the QUIETEST ASIC-based miner I've ever owned to date except *maybe* for my Gridseed 80s (after I replaced the stock fans on them).

 It's not so much that the Bitmain CHIP is bad, but that they tried to push it's lower-voltage limits too hard in the S9 and R4 to score "efficiency bragging points" against BitFury's chip that was demoed before the S9 came to market.

 Once it became clear that the BitFury chip wasn't going to make it into mass market SALES for quite a while, along came the T9 trading off some efficiency for better reliability.
