I also would like if these coins badges would stay forever. Many users would like too see icons of their favourite coins under their names. It was good april fools day prank, but it can be used seriously if few changes would be made.
But I think it won't happen, because it' BITCOINtalk, not ALTCOINtalk and many of staff members don't like altcoins.

Cool, yes. Unnecessary eye candy, also yes.

If needbe, a user can simply use their avatar to cleverly apply the same effect (by placing the badges at the bottom of their avatar) or use their personal text or signature. An additional form of supporting altcoins is not needed.

I think with a few changes they would be a neat feature. Perhaps if you could choose what ones (if any) to show under your name, and users had the ability to disable them like you can disable Avatars and Signatures then it would be a nice thing to have.

I liked them as well and think it's a nice option. We haven't had any new features in a long time and this is already there, just needs some polishing.
Maybe we could have a poll and vote if we want this or not. I can't see any naysayers in the thread, so maybe some numbers would help Theymos decide.

If you need features, go to the beta site. The SMF forum is fine on its own. Extra vanity icons are not what we need right now. In addition, there's a difference [which would take time and effort that would be better used on the new forum] between just randomly assigning icons & tags and creating these eye-candy icons that can be enabled/disabled.

It would be a waste of time. The staff poll was good since it was of critical importance to the site (though community-based) but this would just be absolutely pointless.

So basically,you would like to have some random user on the forum having a badge under his profile as 'Etherum Ceo' or 'Bitcoin Specialist' when they don't know jack shit of either.That joke did make perfect sense on April Fool's.Don't think  people would loved to be fooled an entire year.
You can get special badges on bitcointalk btw,by doing special things.

Maybe theymos will give badges to donator, VIP donator, moderator, staff, global moderator, theymos and few special/important member instead OR will be added in new forums for very specific users.

Yeah, maybe theymos would give badges to those deserving people since it'll help people to know on what expertise those high ranking people excel.

It's quite interesting to have those especially on April Fools. Well, it will distract people's attention since it's our first time seeing those badges appear but i don't think it will distract us when it's been there for a while.
Well this is my thought about this topic, I don't think it's good for those badges to stay or be a permanent feature for the site. Well maybe for those deserving people such as theymos and other staffs having a bitcoin expert badges.

What about giving users buying option from a list of all crypto symbols? .
Those who wants to buy can pay for it.

I do not mean that the badges come with the description it came with, but having the possibility to show just a badge to show what altcoins we are supporting, or just Bitcoin badge to show we somehow do not like altcoin is a valuable addon.

This is why I said that in order for them to be officially implanted they would need a few changes. For example, perhaps we could set 0 to 4 badges of bitcoin or an altcoin of our choice, but they'd have no description or just say the name of the altcoin.

Yes but sad to admit. They are only for April Fools.  Although I like it too. But I think it is impossible to retain since what have been placed on our profile is a random badge (based on our post or most of our post) so if it stays maybe we can choose what badge to wear and the number of it depends on the rank. That should make us more enthusiastic in terms of posting and being active in this forum right?
