Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Mentioned here a few times already, but I would also go with Litecoin. It's similar to Bitcoin and a little bit better imo.
I also really like that fact that there will more coins in circulation than with Bitcoin. I've always found that 21 million cap a bit on the low side.
The 21 million cap may seem low but in the future we will not need to transact full bitcoins at the moment I prefer to use the mBTC as the correct way to measure bitcoin since the price is close to one dollar may be in the future we will have to use even lower amounts to represent the unit closer to a dollar in value.

LTC, if I had to pick one.
ETH would make my list but it will have gone PoS by the time Bitcoin managed to "implode" making it impossible to mine.

Realistically though, as I'm a MINER not an INVESTOR, I target which coins are the most profitable for the most part for the hardware I currently have.

I'm no longer legendary just in my own mind!

Definitely ripple and stratis for sure. Have already invested in Ripple and hope to get some profit soon, stratis is going to be a valuable coin in the future, need some quality experience from the senior members here.

I wanna go with LTC, besides from being the nearly identical Cryptocurrency to Bitcoin, some are saying that it is the silver from bitcoins gold.

Tho' etherium is a good choice too, it's development is still ongoing and a very good contender to Bitcoin. As a matter of fact, Microsoft giant is backing it up.
If Bitcoin will vanish I think I'll go with these two.

There are so many good altcoins out there proposing interesting ideas but that fact that Ardor will solve the scalability issue for good makes me think it is the altcoin for the future.

if bitcoin dies,, i will go for XRP
what a great venue to promote ripple as we all still waiting for the success of this coin might be possible to adopt by banks as they
continue to work it out and if that happen even btc fails crypto can still be carried by xrp as a good alternative.

yes,, XRP is a good alternative for bitcoin,,
its always on TOP 5 of cryptocurrency in marketcap,,

i've never really looked into pos. what is the most successful one and have any of the significant ones had any major disasters? something that doesn't burn insane amounts of electricity and machinery makes alot of sense.

LTC, without a doubt.

yeah. i honestly think that's the only one that would meet my criteria for the long haul. i don't know if that's because i'd still be pining for a bitcoin and that's the closest equivalent.

I also go with LTC, i may not have any holding of this but the way I see it, even with different algorithm, this resembles Bitcoin in so many ways.  The only advantage is that this has fast confirmation.  Aside from Litecoin, I cannot see anything else, others maybe popular but they are either instamined, premined or centralized.

Definitely lite coin it is already the most established and has been a pretty stable price for a while.  ETH and the like are too recent for my tastes.

you can not be specific by giving altcoin who will be next in bitcoin, there are lots of altcoin which having a great and stable value, for now we can not know which altcoin in the next in bitcoin yet since they are all base in bitcoin value.

I see a lot of opinions on what people might go for but what I would like to know is "WHY" you have chosen that particular alt coin. I recently heard about "Torcoin" does anybody know more about this coin & who is behind it?

There are many coins in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, but if we're going for something to replace Bitcoin, it would have to be Dash. It's following in Satoshi's original vision of a peer-to-peer digital cash, has better-incentivized governance to prevent the kinds of problems Bitcoin has run into today, and works much better as a streamlined payment system.

In fact, even if Bitcoin doesn't collapse, but stays the same and even continues to grow, Dash's Evolution update will likely push it to the average consumer far before any other coin. These will be interesting times to watch.

Just a heads up to all you guys thinking Eth will ever capture BTC. There is no way any BTC maximalists will convert to eth except for day trading. THEY understand the term immutability, you boys don't.

XBY has a radical new way to secure the blockchain. No miners or POS but system of signed static nodes that makes the chain impossible to be hacked. its my personal bet on the future.

I will go to Ethereum .The community are big and the acceptance based on other cryptocurency is much higher .A successful crypto i think that can also stand alone without bitcoins as its stability itself.
