the problem with the more academic/industrial books is that they're rarely turned into ebooks so you're often stuck with pdf scans. i don't know how many people there are on this planet with the dedication to completely scan and upload stuff like this.

i'll keep an eye out as i love online detective work.

the op could try the local library service. i've obtained books to read that are worth hundreds of dollars and 80% of the time they had them somewhere in their system. all i had to do was say i wanted it and it was usually there within a couple of weeks for a small fee.

If a book is being sold for 200USD, I would try to get it for him if he is willing to pay me 20USD.
